We went the other direction, that's the view from Pine Point in Maine which is up near Old Orchard Beach. Our friends have an old family place up there about 100' off the beech so we went up to have lunch with them and then headed down by the water for a few hours. And 909, she's still a bit young for swimming, moreover all the Docs have told us to keep her out of the direct sunlight as much as possible until like 6 months or so. So being the overprotective dad that I am she stayed put in her seat and got a solid nap in. Al, she's still to small for that onesie but it's ready to go as soon as she is and there will certainly be a post to go along with that occasion. Peter, yeah, it was a great Monday and clearly better than any workday!

Today we took Lily to the ocean for the first time.

Nice one Jacob, but so far I haven't messed anything up yet. Although it did screw with my head when I discovered that the octal tube sockets that I had are numbered incorrectly on the bottom side, all the numbers are shifted 1 place. That'd be pretty awful if I was PTP'ing this and used those as a guide instead of the notch!

Ok, back on topic (as much as is possible around here). FedEx dropped off a 40lb box yesterday and other than a few missing parts (which are already on the way) all's well in Simple SE land. The guy who selected the parts for this build has heard several Simple SE's and also owns a very similar commercial product and chose the parts according to his experience and advice from others. The result, a collection of pretty top self components really. I can't see anything so far that I'd upgrade. All of the iron is custom Electraprint stuff (to the tune of north of $600), the big honking motor run caps are the same that I used in the Menace (they're used in the PS here) and all the resistors are Riken, PRP or Holco. What few electrolytic there are that will be used will be Elna Silmic II's. For what is for me a "budget build" I'm content to leave this alone. On the way from the seller are the Mundorf Silver in Oil caps and a PEC carbon pot. So last net I set about sorting and getting a lay of the land in terms of how I want to approach this. Miss Lily decided that I wasn't going to be all that productive so I didn't get much done last night other than that. Today I started the process of stuffing the pcb, a simple (wink wink) and straight-forward process. All of the positions are clearly labeled and match up with the schematic and parts list on the website. As usual I go pretty slowly and methodically since 10 minutes saved resulting in smoldering parts really isn't a good use of what free time I have. So after about an hour I'd turned the pile of parts into this. Another half hour and I had the tube sockets mounted. Before I go much further I need to do some layout planning to see how exactly I want to mount the remaining board mounted parts and other details. The parts "kit" came with a Hammond chassis but I'm not sure everything is going to fit since it's pretty shallow so I may need to fine a solution for that before I can get a whole lot more done. So that's it for now, not much I know, but it's a start.

Sure, it's possible. There are countless cases of one company rebranding another's tech for use in their own product. Of course no one but Mikhail knows whether or not Xitel knows what is going on.

I'm guessing it was a published, not for commercial use type of thing. Otherwise I can't believe that he had the gall to just rip that DAC out of a cheap soundcard and bolt it into his product. For all he'd done with the screwing around with customers orders, endless delays, and so on this is the one that disappoints me the most. I mean come on!

Any reason other than your personal inconvenience that they wouldn't just look at it and send it off to apple for repair? I mean there's nothing in the sales agreement that says they have to give you a new phone, right? Granted, it'd suck pretty hard to be without your phone for the weeks that it takes to get repaired but they would probably be justified in taking that route.

I'd suggest trying any of the UPOCC copper wire that you can find, should run less than $2/ft and is among the best I've heard. And you certainly don't need 18ga anything for IC's or more than one conductor for each of the signal components.

Just a minor error (easy to do) but would not have been fun to fix after the fact. Seeing that JB's my homeboy I wanted to save him the trouble.

I really enjoy the Live Ireland station. When I had the SB1 at my soldering rig (which I miss fiercely) I would often listen to that while working.

And others would rant that equipment built like that is gorgeous in its own right and that not everything needs to be farkled to death. I take it that the Vaughn Audio aesthetic is less than pleasing to your eyes?
