  1. Vincent, the amount of heat that would cause a problem is going to be dictated, in large measure, by the temp rating of the components used inside whatever it is you're worried about. In the case of the HR Balanced Desktop, I can't imagine it being an issue since HR tends to be pretty conservative with what they'll tolerate for operating temps. I don't remember that amp getting all that hot (relatively speaking), I mean it was never "I can't touch it hot" like the Wheatfield. If it really is worrisome for you get a IR thermometer and monitor the temps periodically. I think you'll find that what's warm/hot to the touch isn't all that hot really. For example, caps like the Panny FC's are rated to operate up to 105C, which is way hotter than any of your components are running (at least I hope so!).
  2. Grados...dark...faints
  3. I think that it would be safe to say that you and I hear things differently. No wrong implied on either side, just that I've rarely heard the 650s sound shrill, it took a Cardas cable and a very thin source to make them sound that way. This all may be a moot point though, considering that the tube amp that I'm building is inspired by a desire to knock the crap out of the 650s.
  4. The original game was fantastic and I have no issues rehashing all of it. In fact, that's part of what makes it so great, the fact that you can play all of the old levels again. It was Mac only.
  5. I beat both the original and the first Return... and can't tell you how many times, hours, days I spent playing this game. The trailer had me crying tears of joy yesterday.
  6. Yes, both the 580 and 650 sound great driven by a beta22 and I also thought that the 650 and 600 sounded pretty damn good from my PPA. More than tubes vs. SS I think that driving the Senns with a lush, warm or syrupy amp is a recipe for disappointment.
  7. Yeah, that's where I'm at now but like I said, this is a "cheap bastard" project and less is definitely the name of the game. I think I've found an iBook on Craig's List which would be a great score but who knows if that'll pan out.
  8. Ok, so the game that I spent a good part of my formative years playing has been re-released for the Mac and I'm dying to try it again. So that leaves me in the somewhat awkward position of basically not wanting to spend much in the way of $$ on this computer. It certainly doesn't need to be much, specs are as follows: Minimum Specs - Mac OS 10.3.9 - G3 processor - 500 mhz - 128MB of RAM - 106MB of free hard drive space - Turn all special effects off to run at 15 frames per second Recommended Specs - G4 processor - 1.0 ghz - 256MB of RAM - 100MB of free hard drive space So what's the cheapest thing to look for that I can simply plug in in place of my existing desktop PC and play? I'm guessing it's a mac mini but maybe there is something even cheaper. I'd like to stick to the Recommended Specs and get what little eye-candy the game has to offer. Refurb minis are $649 right now which is a good bit more than I'd like to spend.
  9. Haven't you learned yet that graphs don't matter and that tuning by ear is where it's at?
  10. Tell them to get at least 2 if they are.

  12. Parts for my new office amp.
  13. Color me very interested!
  14. Well, there's at least a light of hope then. I kind of wondered what they'd do with the writer-strike shortened pilot season. I mean it did average around 8 million viewers so it wasn't a total turd.
  15. Translation, about what one should expect for $65 headphones. If one wants good closed sound the only option I've heard is the D5000s.
  16. I take it that none of the commercial offerings are acceptable? I mean I've seen teflon ribbon cables, but never blank runs of just the jacket. And how many of what gauge?
  17. I have a really hard time picturing the Air as the only computer that I'd own. You're paying a huge tax for weight and form-factor and would get a lot more bang for your buck with their other offerings if you insist on going Apple. I'd have to travel more than 50% of my working life to even start to consider something like it and even then it'd just be for travel. It also strikes me (much like the eeepc) as something that will get much better in its second generation.
  18. I've never heard the highs get tamed by bowls. If anything they get more pronounced.
  19. I'd be surprised if it existed. There are just too many combinations that different applications could want. What would be wrong with just individual strands either twisted or braided together? Just because Stax does it flat ribbon style doesn't mean that everything else has to be the same, right?
  20. Cool, Steve. Speaker cables were one of my first projects, look out!
  21. Pfft, I have 3, bring it on. Nice looking cables too!
  22. Shouldn't the coils be covered by the recall?
  23. I guess I should have called this line of cables the "recstar" but SUCKITALO just seemed more fun. The only other name in contention was LIMITOFAUDIOGOODNESS but that seemed like it would just be too long and difficult to say.
  24. Oh nos!!1! The SUCKITALO line expanded this morning...
