  1. Aha, the card on this lappy is billed as a "discrete" card so I'll work of the assumption that replacing/upgrading really isn't an option.
  2. Except that I'm sure in Msoft's head you now own two licenses of their software. I'm probably going to go with XP as the proven, more reliable option. I've already got a free upgrade to Vista as previously mentioned should I ever want to. I've got a connection at IBM so I'm looking at about $300 less than what you'd see on the website. That makes it even more of a no-brainer really. Can any one tell me if it'd be possible to upgrade the video card later, I don't quite understand how the different laptops work, some with integrated graphics, some with cards that use VRAM and others with dedicated ram. I assume that like a desktop somewhere on the mother board is a slot where I could put a more robust graphics card if I wanted to, but that's a major assumption on my part.
  3. Any thoughts on Vista vs. XP Pro? My thought is that I can always upgrade to Vista later (I have a copy of Ultimate sitting next to me that I have no use for, yet) and I'm infinitely more familiar with the architecture of XP.
  4. Ok, back to the original topic of this thread, namely me. I've pretty much come to the decision that as much as I might love a pimptastic 17" Dell XPS or MacBook Pro it just isn't going to be in the cards any time soon. So, in light of that here's the Lenovo T61p that I'm currently giving serious consideration. My hesitation is that I don't know enough to know whether or not it'll be able to handle the gaming that I have planned for it. Suggestions welcome and appreciated, as always. Agreed, occasionally reruns will be on while I'm at the gym and I can't get past "Mr. I-must-not-look-at-the-camera-straight", he ruins it for me every time.
  6. The best I could do for a saucy picture of her...
  7. A bunch of parts to build a boutique Millett MAX (or two). Jesus, like I need another Millett but I'm curious to see how this one sounds in comparison to my ridiculously over-blackgated version.

Yikes, if you've ever had a leaky wax ring on a toilet you'd never think about breathing the air that's down there. There's a reason that toilets are designed to maintain a water barrier between the air in the room and the air in the waste line. BLECH!!!!!
  9. Not to mention that they're something you definitely don't want to buy used!
  10. Uh yeah, at this point I think I'll pretty much ignore what this guy has to say about headphones as an audiophile listening experience. The comment about the HD600s providing isolation seals the deal.
  11. Agreed, the mold wraps around so much of the driver and actually the cable as well that I don't see how that'd be possible. Still, that's of little concern since if I'm going to spend ~$300 to $400 for a new set of IEMS I'm just going to plunk donw for customs anyway. Amen to that, I could never convince myself to build Xin's Ety cable as it just looked a bit too ghetto. Alex's cable looks friggen sweet. There are some pretty positive impressions over at HF of the cable as well. I'll see if I can track the thread down, here it is.

  13. Nah, he's selling an Ety cable now that looks really sweet and at some point the cost vs. hassle factor takes over and even I'm willing to pay someone else to do work.
  14. I just reread some of my comments and it sounds like I'm being pretty harsh, that's not what I intended. I think Alex's work is first rate and if the techflex doesn't present a microphonics issue I can see how it'd be much easier to work with given its ability to expand to a far greater degree than multifilament. Alex, YGPM on a separate issue.
  15. That's pretty much what I said. In the past I don't remember finding anything nearly as reasonable sounding (price-wise) and they always looked goofy as hell too. These actually look half-decent and the price is great. Now, to figure out if I want to go nuts and have APS recable the Etys first...
  16. Looking forward to that, I saw a thread about custom impressions for ER4Ps again last night and I'm seriously weighing that as an option now too. They don't have much in the way of resale value ($100ish) and if the process is reversible it's not all that much of a risk for better comfort and isolation.
  17. I like them both. Great job on the design Justin, I can't imagine that Resistor Ray is happy about being trumped for the "stuffing the most into the smallest package" title.
  18. I guess for me, even after the microphonics issue, it's still a matter of feel. Techflex feels like crap to me.

  20. I hear you, I've given a lot of thought to changing from the ER4P to something else, but decided that if I'm going to bother to do it I'm going to move to customs. I'll never be able to afford the UE10/11/whatever and there's not much to choose from in the sub-500 custom range. I don't have enough faith in the livewires yet to take a flier on them.
  21. Alex, How are the microphonics with the techflex sleeving? That's my one big gripe with the Zu Mobius. Nylon multifilament sleeving seems much better in all aspects compared to standard techflex.
  22. There's a better deal on ER4S's here right now that I'd be all over if I needed some budget IEMs.
  23. Took a vacation to Chicago, so I missed it entirely. This new theme business threw me off.
