  1. Big weekend. Thursday was John Mayer/Michael Franti and Spearhead, Friday was Further. Last night the NFL put on a free concert on Fort Lauderdale beach with Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Bare Naked Ladies and O.A.R. It was a blast.
  2. Wow, the knife rec's are coming fast and furious. Thanks. I wasn't planning on getting anything right away but maybe a new knife or two is in order for the new kitchen.
  3. I've just come to the realization that if I use that PWD as the preamp, then under all scenarios any out from a switch, like the Goldpoint or Darwin, will always be controlled by the volume control of the PWD and the KGSS in my case. The only way to avoid this is to buy a preamp with a pass thru like the GSX, as an example. This was probably obvious to others but not to me. I can live with that solution which makes the GP attractive as it's available and has a source selector. Is there an advantage to the Darwin and am I correct in the above assumption?
  4. Jeff, Happy Birthday! Go out and control some heads tonight, you deserve it.
  5. I need to pick up some nice knives at some point. My inlaws bought us a set from Sharper Image which are not bad but I'm thinking I need something sharper and that holds the edge longer.
  6. When my 17 year old water heater finally goes I will be looking into a whole house instant heat system.
  7. That's close. I need one in and two out. I'm thinking that the easiest thing for me to do now is get 2 xlr Y splitters, each single female xlr on one end and two female xlr on the other end. One would send two balanced ic's into the KGSS and the other two balanced ic's into the mccormack power amp. I would then set the volume on the BH at 3:00 or so and then use the PWD to control volume into everything. I would use the rca out of the PWD into the B22. Does this make sense?
  8. I am going to pay for a service to remove this bees nest in front of my house:
  9. I know there are some clever DIY'rs out there that can figure out how to make something similar. It looks like there are 3 of us looking a Darwin.
  10. :palm: Congratulations!
  11. I saw that one. Too much money at the moment. I am reminded of my budget as the guy arrived this morning to remove the kitchen counter top, sink and to cut a wall to get ready for the new counter tops.
  12. Further first set, first song.
  13. Glad to hear it Al. The other choice is to win and be a hero, big time to a good client. That pays off as well.
  14. Tom, sorry to hear and I hope you have a fast and easy recovery. Brian, sorry about your loss. Al, two partners? 0-3? That sucks but you will bounce back and I'm sure your daily box of money was still delivered. Now to hopefully turn this thread from doom and gloom to my financial success. We just got a piece of litigation that if we don't win it in the early stages may pay for my retirement.
  15. They discuss it here: PS Audio - PerfectWave DAC : More Info
  16. Thanks Pete but that would be way over my budget. I did love the SWL9.0SE that I borrowed from Oz.
  17. Many phono preamps are somewhat noisy. It's when the noise is more than you are willing to accept that it's a problem. Mine became noiser after I moved stuff around and added to my system. Jp's noise level is lower and acceptable. I just no longer want to deal with the problem any longer and don't necessarily blame the ULN-2 for the problem. You still need a mac. Jp can explain how the RIAA is done as he merely sent me a file that I use.
  18. I want to go balanced into both my KGSS and my McCormack power amp (which by the way arrives at McCormack East today for much needed tlc). I'm now thinking of trying out the PWD as the preamp. Is there a device that will let me take the balanced out from the PVD into a switch box that has a balanced input and two or more balanced outs? In other words, a Skipjack that is balanced.
  19. I will compare it to the PWD this weekend. I'm not expecting the PWD to blow it away as the ULN-2 is very good. Obviously, since I have it already the mac only issue and input issues are not problems for me. Where I am certain the PWD will come out on top is in feature present and in the future (Bridge). Both can be used as a preamp but the PWD has a remote. The PWD offers balanced output 24/192. You to move up the Sonic Studio/Metric Halo line to get those features. The ULN-2 offers the ability to use it as a phono preamp and has a decent enough headphone out, that can be a bit bright with certain headphones.
  20. running them separately at the moment. FW for the uln-2 and usb for the PWD.
  21. Who does? Despite this Matt, Gene, Raffy, Wayne and I are going.
  22. Not sure I need the Skipjack. I have 2 sources and 3 amps. The tt presents a problem. But in terms of my power amp and 2 headphone amps, the PWD should work. I just keep my current pre for my tt.
  23. Now that I've read a bit more about the PWD, I could just use it as the preamp. I would have to switch between the IC's connecting my power amp and KGSS but it would save me the cost of another preamp. I would be able to connect the b22 using the RCA out's.
