Speaker audition - what, why, when and how good
I had a pair of CP-6311 on loan for a time, and they worked well for me. I'll definitely look into them. I really didn't care for the Gallo 3.1s when I demoed them a few years ago (sounded awfully gimmicky), so I don't anticipate liking the Stradas much. The upper section of a 3.5, yes. This is a unique sort of travel, though, one in which I stay for a year or two then move again, likely across oceans. In making a big deal about what sort of loudspeakers would be required for this application, I've been given permission to go to hi-fi shops and test loudspeakers lately. It's been wonderful.

Do tell me how you felt about it. I'll not colour your experience by sharing my feelings just yet...

Some of the nicer Ushers are really fine speakers, and no stranger to "all out assaults". Not sure what the dealer network looks like out there, though. I'll be giving a test to the little gallo strada monitors for a travelling system.

Not yet, but closer than ever. Seriously, at this point I'm just waiting for the call. Nothing left to pass. Also, it would appear his arraignment went off without a hitch, but little news on audioholics.

Euro-meet: A Thread.
The idea of this warms the cockles of my heart. I'm always willing to pony more money and effort when it involves crossing an ocean.

Does that mean you're related to Snorri, Birgir? Oh, how dreamy.

Ipod Touch / Iphone
There definitely is. This guide is helpful, but you don't need to do everything in it, since you're not downgrading the firmware. Step 1 and 2 can be skipped, I would imagine. The key is finding the copy of ios 3.1.3 on your computer already, and then hitting Alt/Opt while you click the "restore" button. That allows you to choose the file you want to restore from, rather than having Apple automatically select the newest one. Hope that helps.

Ipod Touch / Iphone
Well, we agree on the "shouldn't have to", but I didn't feel it a strong enough ideological stand to spend my own money on a new phone when fixing it took all of 45 minutes, much of which I left the thing to its own processes and cooked. As to the losing of everything, I can see why you feel how you do, though I've not had a similar experience.

Ipod Touch / Iphone
This surprises me. I put iOs4 on my 3g, and it worked fine. Then it dawned on me that it was awfully slow, so I DFU'ed it and downgraded back to 3.1.3. It worked fine from there on. Was there a reason your friend didn't pursue this route?

Did we ever get a ruling on those blowjobs? I'm on expedia.com right now, and I don't want this window to time out.]

I can't speak for everyone, Ric, but I do believe I sold you the pair of K1K you are in the process of coming to terms with maybe getting rid of. Do it. Get the JH13. They are honestly better headphones. There are truly transcendental moments on the K1Ks when everything seems right with the world and the heavens open, but they're marred by all the other things you spoke of. The fact that some recordings can be so good, so well suited, just makes the other recordings feel less worthy somehow. The JH fixed that problem, for me. If we could trade headphones and I could get my old K1Ks back, I wouldn't. They're my favorite dynamic ever, but they're not good enough at enough to make them truly indispensable, as the JH13 has become to me. I can only assume the 16+3a is even better.

this sounds not unlike my current culinary lineup, Tom. I've got a batch of homemade cherry Garcia in the freezer setting up, and some dogfish brown as well. A toast to good taste!

What did you do today?
I just received a letter from the U.S. Department of State confirming that I have passed my Top Secret clearance procedure, and I'm on the register for the Foreign Service. Now I just wait for the call.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. Here's where a larger viewfinder would be nice. I had to switch to manual focus to get the depth I wanted and keep the framing, but once I blew them up later for proofing I saw that I only got tight focus on the very front edge of the cake. I usually try to avoid bokeh in the foreground, as it's distracting, but here I failed. As to the contrast, I played around with it in post, but boosting contrast made the food look a little less natural. Any suggestions on how to get more in the original picture?
