February 23, 201412 yr I heard a really cool device tonight -- Kemper Profiling Amplifier -- basically, it reproduces any amp. At US$2177, it's cheaper than the 20 or so pedals I'm probably going to end up getting, trying to figure out which overdrive I want. Also heard a Gibson Advanced Jumbo, which was pretty.
February 23, 201412 yr I guess that also adds in all of the moogerfoogers with drive circuits, too. MF101, ladder filter + drive
February 23, 201412 yr Author The only thing I have in my pedal notes is "I want an Aqua-Puss and a Sweaty-Puss or whatever those things were called." Looks like a Mahogany GS-Mini with an SKB EPS Foam case would be my best bet for a travel guitar but I am not sure it is really worth dragging a guitar around everywhere.
February 23, 201412 yr But there is no creepy guy there to give me big discounts. You would have to go to Fairfax. CA. Lots of creepy guys there...

February 24, 201412 yr Collings Baby... The best travel size guitar I have played. Get yourself a Calton case for it and you can check it when you travel. Edited February 24, 201412 yr by tjkurita
February 24, 201412 yr Author No way I would spend 5 grand on a travel guitar setup for TSA or rapid temp/humidity changes to destroy in a year.
February 25, 201412 yr Author I ended up going with a Voyage-Air travel guitar. Seems to be the best of both worlds as I get an OM guitar, with full scale 1-3/4" nut that in everything I have seen sounds very good. Unfortunately the shop had to order so it will not be in until after I take off on this first leg of the NBA trip.
February 28, 201412 yr Author Started working on Mumford & Sons "The Cave" tonight in lessons. Love the song and it is really much simpler than I would have thought listening to it all this time.
March 8, 201412 yr Jeff, listen to the piezo pickup on this (first part), I think you'll find it very acoustic-ish, more acoustic sounding than an acoustic with a pickup.
March 14, 201412 yr Author Stopped to pick up my new Voyage Air and my freshly Plek'd / upgraded Gibson at the store tonight. The Voyage Air sounds really good for something that fits in a back pack. Quite a bit better than I remember the GS Mini sounding. Also picked up a ceramic and a brass slide to try out.
March 15, 201412 yr Author It is remarkable what a good setup & PLEK plus replacing the Tusq with real bone has done for the Gibson. Far better playability and sound now.
April 19, 201412 yr Went by Action Music after CD Cellar, they still had the Melobar, but it was a lot more expensive than I remember it, so still holding off...I think I might see if they have a layaway plan in May. So I bought another pedal instead:
April 25, 201412 yr Just found out that PRS made another baritone, and in purple no less: ...but no Bigsby option. I mentioned that to them on Facebook, and they said they could do it, and to contact their Tech Center, but their tech center couldn't do it. ("Unfortunately we could not install one as the bridge will not work for one and the neck angle is to low for the bridge that will.") Oh, well, there's still the Gretsch.
May 17, 201412 yr Author Trying to choose between a couple of guitars. Neither of which I can try out locally. Guitar #1 - Gibson Nashville Custom Shop '59 Re-issue ES-335 in Cherry Guitar #2 - Collings I35 Deluxe Carved Top with Lollars Humbuckers. The Collings would actually be a bit cheaper and I really like the looks better I think. It would also come with the lifetime warranty which would be nice. You guys ever played either guitar, have any advice?
May 18, 201412 yr I'd go with #2. Gibsons quality is reportedly more hit or miss than the small builders.
May 18, 201412 yr I'd go with #2 for no other reason than because I was told that Lollars are good pickups, and the fact that he chose them indicates to me an attention to detail...
May 18, 201412 yr I know nothing about the guitars, but I like the look of the second one a lot more.
May 18, 201412 yr I've played neither so my opinion doesn't matter but I'd go for 335, because a 335 is a 335 rather than a semi hollow body if you know what I mean.
May 23, 201412 yr Advertisement I saw on Facebook for Guitar cabinets (humidors?). Don't get the large in black walnut, that thing will weigh a ton. Dr. Wood will have to tell you about the other woods.
