April 1, 201313 yr Been reading a lot lately. Recently finished: Better than the movie. Audiobook. Not his best but still good. It was OK. Another just OK. Really liked this. Apocalypse version of Old Man & the Sea, basically. This book messed me up. Loved it. Trying to expand beyond sci-fi/fantasy, science, and travel books.
April 2, 201313 yr Currently reading On The Road but I don't really know why. I guess I hope it will all fall into place, but I have the nagging fear that I will get to the end and just be left with emptiness
April 2, 201313 yr You're not reading on the road for plot or great meaning are you? I guess I'm doing it wrong, but yea I like those things.
April 2, 201313 yr Author you may like those things, but it's a stream of consciousness story from Kerouac. Any meaning you find from it you bring to it.
April 2, 201313 yr Spaulding Gray's better 'Impossible Vacation' was my gateway to accepting 'On the Road,' but in reality there just better Beat and of course other, writing out there. Echoing Grawk, I wouldn't beat yourself up if 'On the Road' doesn't hit. Now if 'The Road' doesn't hit we can talk.
April 10, 201313 yr Just finished: I liked Oryx & Crake so much I read the sequel. I enjoyed it very much as well. Starting:
April 10, 201313 yr Good to hear. Read the concurrent sequel, so now have to hit Crake. In fact recommended The Handmaid's Tale to my mother yesterday.
April 18, 201313 yr I have joined a couple of local book clubs so I am now reading: 2 chapters in, loving it so far. Same: 2 chapters in & very good so far. Combo of sci-fi/noir (ala Blade Runner), & steampunk. Been wanting to read this for awhile. I've heard good things about it so looking forward to it. Edited April 18, 201313 yr by MoonShine
May 13, 201313 yr Just finished this. enjoyed it. hmmm, what to read next... Edited May 13, 201313 yr by robm321
May 22, 201313 yr Lollers. "...renowned monarch..." I mean, lollers at the whole thing, but particularly lollers at "...renowned monarch..."
May 28, 201313 yr Next up for the Sci-Fi / Fantasy Book Club: I'm about 50 pages in. Surprisingly good so far. Also starting (for yet another Book Club): Recently finished:
May 28, 201313 yr Last Call was excellent albeit more mainstream fantasy than his others. Less mindbending. Starting Far Time Incident, enjoying this so far. Sent from mah phone-blet via Tapatalk
May 28, 201313 yr Author Dan: how did you like Wool? It was a good pulp style read. Not great literature, but engaging.
May 28, 201313 yr Author Last Call was excellent albeit more mainstream fantasy than his others. Less mindbending. You didn't find redemption and the fisher king stuff mind bending? All the poker magic, and the magical roots of Las Vegas?
