skullguise Posted September 10 Report Posted September 10 (edited) Belinda Carlisle - Once Upon A Time In California. Chose it for a great song selection of covers. And....she managed to destroy just about every one.....she manages to sing with fairly good inflection, but ALSO somehow manages to suck the life out of every song on the album. Arrangements and such are so-so, sometimes pretty bad. Or maybe it's just me 🤣 EDIT: wasn't even through with the whole album, and got to a cover of Nilsson's Everybody's Talkin' and it is just fucking horrible! Edited September 10 by skullguise It's even worse than I thought! FFS..... 2 Quote

mikeymad Posted September 10 Report Posted September 10 What a jam - Video quality not the best, but sound quality is good. And three percussionists is what we all need. Highlight is also the keyboard player. 2 1 Quote
skullguise Posted September 12 Report Posted September 12 New Chameleons, Arctic Moon. Some similarity to their older work, but much is new and different. Lyrically I love it, and the music fits each song. Lead singer Vox (used to be Mark Burgess) puts some soul and emotion into the words, representing relationships, new-found love but also the scary nature of the modern world (last song for example is called Saviors Are A Dangerous Thing). But it's certainly an acquired taste. I'm loving it so far..... 3 1 Quote

Dusty Chalk Posted Saturday at 02:59 PM Report Posted Saturday at 02:59 PM Went off on a Devics bender again, just finished it the other day. Also going through some new releases: Kardi, When the Lights Out EP -- dangerously obsessable (Korean) poprock New SmashPups song, Chrome Jets. Rifftastic. Reminds of someone, can't put my finger on whom -- Randy Rhoads era Ozzy maybe? New Haezl song She's taking some time off to care for a family member, so there will probably be a delays in the other 6 parts of this. Pink Floyd, "The Machine Song - Demo #2, Revisited" -- almost sounds heavier without the beat/throb Crippling Alcoholism, Camgirl -- gothic rock, noise rock, darkwave Maruja, Pain to Power -- post-rock, post-punk, art rock Quote

I just don't get it for some reason. I have heard his music all around and many covers. So, I sat down and listened to and hour plus of his songs. They were recorded well, the melodies were nice, the lyrics were mostly sentimental but well crafted. But still nothing caught me, nothing to say, 'Ah, now I get it'. And in the end maybe that is it, it is nice, but not for me. 🤷♂️ etc... So, still thinking about Ed.. and then Tiny Desk shared this: Enjoyable. More than I thought. Anyway, I might just go back to ignoring him, but I like him more. Quote

robm321 Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago In case you're interested. Wiki: The album was a commercial failure on its original release,[8][9] and despite the duo's subsequent success, it remained without a commercial remaster or digital re-release for over five decades.[10] It was revealed on July 22, 2025, that the album had been remastered and would be released on CD, vinyl, and streaming September 19, 2025.[11] Rhino Records will handle distribution.[12] 1 Quote
