The Skipper is Mal. There are Gilligan traits in both Jayne and Wash; professor traits in both Simon and Book. The contrast of Ginger's glam and Mary Ann's plain-ness in Inara & Kaylee (and in both cases, there is still a friendship/comraderie). I have no idea who Mr. and Mrs. Howell would be associated with, but Simon definitely has an air of nobility/snobbiness about him, so perhaps Simon/River. Zoe doesn't really have a counterpart, other than she's sort of the second in command. But there are more characters in Firefly/Serenity, so of course they're not going to all match up. ...or maybe it's Lost In Space... Thoughts?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=407693&in_page_id=1770 Anyone else read about this? It's absolutely disgusting. I can't believe China allows this kind of stuff, especially with the real olympics being held there in just a couple years. You'd think they would have considered the negative publicity before staging such an event, but I guess not.

I'm heading out to the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest for the day on October 21. My plane gets into Denver at 7:30 am and my plane leaves at 6:30 pm, so I figure I'll be at the show for about 7-8 hours. So, who else is going?

Some of you are aware that Tyll has been attempting to start an International Headphone organization. The primary purpose of this organization would be to plan and hold the National and some large regional meets. It would also be an independent organization tasked with promoting the headphone hobby. The plan was to use the excess funds from the National meet to start this organization as a 501c3. Tyll has spent a great deal of time and energy working on this project. He stated from the very beginning that he wanted the organization to be democratic with an elected board. After it got going Tyll specifically did not want to be in charge of it. Well yesterday Jude basica…

Two days ago when my wife took our daughter to school this abandoned kitten approached them. An elderly gentleman told her the kitten had been there for a few days and the kitten was dirty and hungry .... which immediately set of Lisa's motherly instincts. The kitten also turned out to be extremely personable so I soon got a call pleading to keep the cat. I normally would not hesitate as I like animals equally well, but we already have three dogs and three cats. In the end I relented .... and now we have Jet. She definitely is a cutie and she is also much smaller than she appears to be in the pictures. As the first picture suggests .... she is already my head-fi buddy…

I thought that some of you may find this interesting. I myself had always tied diabetes and heart problems with obesity, but it seems that this may be another myth perpetuated by the comercial sector. http://www.bigfatfacts.com/

Enough is enough. At first everyone had to get it out of their system which is fine, but this crap has gone on long enough. Do you think people really want to read thread after thread gangbanging rsa or some idiot on head-fi? Even after the most annoying head-fier thread was locked nobody seems to get the message, and instead start threads that either turn into or are indirectly criticizing head-fi or it's members in some way. Do you people think you're so damn better than head-fi? I have news for you, reading your stupid whining about head-fi is worse than just going out and reading head-fi itself. The signal to noise ratio is getting absurd in here. It's an insult to…

Or the myths which people like to parrot to the point where they've become accepted "fact". 1) Grados don't really need an amp and don't benefit all that much from one. While it's true that Grados will sound pretty decent straight out of a PCDP or iPod, they improve a hell of a lot when driven off a good amp. A 225 is pretty listenable out of my Walkman, but gets a fair bit better out of my Gilmore Lite, and it's better still on Biggie's pimped out tube amp. I'd argue that a Grado will scale as nicely as any other headphone. 2) The "tube sound" myth. Tube amps have rolled off highs & lows, rounded off transients, lacking dynamics, fuzzy imaging, but great midran…

Our cat Jazz had been having trouble breathing for about 24 hours so we called the vet. Due to the hour we brought him to an emergency clinic. They X-Rayed his chest and found a large growth pushing on his lungs. They thought they might be able to help him out and drain some fluid, but it wasn't fluid, it was a cancerous growth. It was inits final stages and there was nothing left to do. So I let me little furry buddy go. Once when I posted a pic of him on some "post pics of your pets" thread, a fellow Head-Fier said that Jazz looked like he had a bit of the devil in him...he was right. Jazz was a kitten to he end. He sat on my lap and I listened to cans and kept my le…

In my other post, I thought I'd seen something that would define the ridiculous but now I'm not so sure it can stand up to this: So tell me...just how did a kid who CAN'T READ score a 22 on READING COMPREHENSION? I don't know what's more ridiculous....the thought of a kid who can't read trying to make it in college or that his family thinks they could possibly win a case in court. On what grounds? How could a judge allow that? How could that decision be defended legally and morally? I know it's all about $$ but what happened to the integrity of a college degree? If I'm an Ole Miss grad, I'm raising he!! over this one. Just plain crazy IMO.

Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and environmentalist known as the "Crocodile Hunter," was killed Monday by a stingray during a diving expedition, Australian media said. He was 44. The guy was over the top but man, I enjoyed his enthusiasm! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060904/ap_on_en_tv/obit_irwin

I think we can all agree that audio is a pretty subjective hobby, and that we all have different tastes and preferences, not to mention that we hear differently as well. With that out of the way, we move on to what happens when we start debating the merits of various gear, I may think "gear x" sucks while someone else says it's the best damn thing since the invention of modern contraceptives. So far I think we're still in the region where it's all just opinion, and everyone's viewpoint has equal or almost equal validity to it. But what happens when someone makes a clearly unsupportable statement and claims that it's just his opinion and that his word is worth as much a…

I told the wife I just have to have a Harley Soft Tail. Ed across the street just got one and Bob on the side street just got a Kawasickie. And Mo, down the street just got a Miata. Dear, I need to save face here. The man who dies with the most toys WINS. Ya know? She said "NO". You got ten bad discs in your back and bad hips and knee joints plus at your age you don't belong on a bike. Then she said your John Deere riding lawnmower (RX75 rear engine rider) is 17 years old. Why don't you just get a nifty new lawn mower instead? Doesn't that count as a "Nifty boy toy". I said get rid of my John Deere, oh Lord no. She said "just get a new John Deere, a bigger one or somethi…
