  2. The Americans was on display at Stanford's Cantor Arts Center and luckily I was there on the last day of the exhibition. I had seen some images, but there were dozens of them and it was very cool.

  3. My take is hi-res is marginally better on hi-fidelity systems. I do sense an increased sense of ease in the experience. But re-mastering is WAY more important. If "hi-rez" can be sold to the public with the bullshit numbers argument and we get MQA hi-res streaming available on premium services at $20-$30/month...I'm fine with that... ...as long as we're also getting re-mastered music that sounds like it was supposed to. As an aside, I did chat with a number of folks at CES that were aware of pretty significant efforts at the labels to do just that.

  5. Just like you Tyll...I think most of it is due to much better mastering and one will need a resolving enough system to different standard redbook & hi-rez system apart. I wish every redbook album can sound just as good as Eva Cassidy - Live at Blues Alley album.

  12. The 1Ds arrived. It is not light. Feels even more solid than the 1N though. Handles just like the 1N. Right down to the practical ISO limit at 1250. 40mm FOV is best FOV. I shall take it out this weekend and give my back muscles a workout.

  16. Not entirely on topic but my wife and I are finally moving ahead with getting plans drawn up for digging out the basement at our house to make a HT/Kids room/guest room. I'm getting rather excited about the whole thing and while I will not be able to set up the room perfectly (speakers are going to have to be wall mounted) I'm going to get around that with some technology. Right now I'm thinking BD-Player and Cable Box -> 65" TV, HT Reciever -> 8 channel AD converter -> AES digital-> 3 Genelec 8330 + 4 Genelec 8320 (or maybe 4 more 8330) + Genelec 7350A Sub running Genelec GLM network and room correction. We'll see what the budget comes out at. Another option is making it movies only and skipping the cable box downstairs.
