Inspired by Tyll's big sound project a few of us Bay Area people are going to get together and do some blind A/B testing with the Yggy, my Oppo, the Gungnir Multibit, and a few USB regeneration devices tomorrow. My philosophy has always been that if I can't hear a difference blind then its not something worth paying for. I can't wait to find out whether spending 2.3k on this DAC was worth it. It subjectively sounds nice to me, but if I can't pick it out from the Oppo blind then it probably wasn't the smartest buying decision. I am also curious to find out whether there is something to those USB regen devices or if they are snake oil. I'll report back with findings later this weekend.
  4. On the way to the Cliffs of Moher.
  5. Speaking of shows with children in mind, saw my first full episode of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood this week (a few dozen episodes just released on Netflix). In such public consciousness, I thought I had seen it before I did, and Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood has been a staple here for a couple years, but it was even better than I expected. Talked with GF and figured she was watching Fred about the time I was consuming (ma and pop were ahead of their time with free range [TV watching] parenting) - Tarantula, Blob, original Little Shop of Horrors, THEM!, etc. Is this where our lives diverged (and she ended up much kinder)?
  6. Burger and onion rings from Lil Woodies.
  7. Tmobile's coverage where I live is not particularly good, but it's good enough. AT&T is the only really good coverage around here. It makes up for it with the wifi calling. Verizon is horrible around here. Any city, it's good. I'm hoping the new bands will make it better, too.

Just a reminder Amazon Prime now allows Instant Video downloads on mobile. Grab Listen Up Philip for that next flight.
  9. Years ago pedefede mentioned that replacing the 10k trimmers with some vishay PTF56 resistors (since they're 5ppm) did the trick. If it isn't the input tubes that's the next thing I'll try. Anyone happen to have 9kOhm PTF56's lying around?
  10. Funny, I had the reverse situation. My mother almost married the first guy who came around after the divorce. He was a newish private detective who upon hearing I was home from film school (and liked Art and international films at the time) decided he'd impress us with a trip to his favorite movie - Top Gun. Wish I could remember his name to see how that career went. See if I watched Mister Rogers I'd have said something nicer.
  11. I bought a Lamy Dialog 3. I always wanted a retractable nib and this one takes the cake in my option. It's a bit thicker than a Vanishing Point but I like the 14k gold nib a ton more and the rotate to extend the nib action is superb. Pics when I remember to stop leaving it at work.
  12. Well, hey, I watched a lot of b-grade horror flicks growing up, too. And, all 3 of us boys wanted my mother to marry a certain boyfriend after she was divorced, specifically because he watched Creature Double Feature and The Three Stooges with us. What could possibly have gone wrong....? With him, or me?
  13. Someone on Facebook recently accused me of having consumed way too many drugs at some point in my life. I corrected him (I didn't take drugs, even though I grew up in the 70s), but allowed that maybe I was allowed to watch too many horrible horror movies during the 70s (I blame my babysitters). So...yeah, maybe.
  14. Sadly, several new members are left unwelcomed. Apparently, this would happen on Postjack's forum.
  15. Saves on tour costs. I saw him do that opening for Taylor swift a couple years ago. He's good.
  16. Co-Worker mentioned that he'd heard that a hipster he had knowledge of, was having a playlist "burnt" to vinyl. Because. Turns out, it is a thing. https://www.onecutvinyl.com/ http://www.vinyl-pressing.com/ http://www.customrecords.com/ Edit: even if this failed: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/minyl-project#/story
  17. I follow it too. Glad the fire didn't shut them down, and happy you got to visit.
