Fencing camp has begun! With three olympic coaches and three current olympians the prospects for beneficial training and conditioning in preparation for the upcoming nationals is good. Saturday's wine dinner helped set the mood for the week I am sure and tonight Mary and I are hosting a coach and olympic athlete dinner at a local restaurant. Mary nixed my idea of wearing a tee shirt with Lance's picture on it to the dinner...can't imagine why. ?5 points

Installed a Draw-Tite 1.25" receiver hitch and built/installed a Thule T2 Pro XT. Supposedly 20-30 minutes. Maybe on a brand new car that didn't have years of... Tolerance Creep, we'll say. Should have paid the extra 100$. What I thought would be an hour was a full day, but it was cold and rainy, so not exactly what one would really want to ride in anyway. Xavier helped me every step of the way, We earned that next ride! If you look closely, you can see the lock wrapped around the wheel and fork Sent from my LG-H932 using Tapatalk5 points

I do this walk leading thing now to keep myself out of mischief. So I ended up volunteering to lead our local Ramblers group on their Summer Awayday on a 12 mile route in the Cotswolds yesterday. Biggest group I've taken out so far - 20 turned up! Anyway, this is the group. The little stream just behind us is the early bit of the river Windrush, which is a tributary of the Thames - it joins the Thames after another 35 miles. They all seem to have had a good time from their comments at the end. I'm the guy with the red hat.4 points

My friend Carly Dow's sophomore album pre-order just got fully funded on kickstarter. If you like rootsy singer-songwriters with smoky voices, check it out:2 points

Yeah - Mick. He's done a couple of my longer walks (15 miles or so), and if the weather is sunny and warm - off comes the shirt. Seems it works with the ladies - he's hitched up with one of the unattached ones pretty quickly.2 points

I think that now it´s finished but I want to add a few resistor on the heaters filaments because I have 6.8vAC. Sometimes this happens to me with the Toroidy transformers. Front end tubes draw about 11,5mA. I was surprised that this amplifier has very little gain. On the other hand it makes up for it with a very pleasant and musical sound. I´m waiting a pair of E80CC for replacement the 6189.2 points

Had Colin, our buddy Mike, and one of Xavier's friends over for the first grill out of the summer on the "vintage" Weber 3 burner grill that came with the house. Had 3 Waygu burgers, 3 pounds of 73/27 ground beef, a few brats, corn, and of course, some Searzall melted cheese on grilled Franz buns. Pulled the larger buns for a smaller burger early on, but got the sizing right-er later. Also, sampler pack of Strongbow Cider and a 6 pack Angry Orchard to go along with it. Great impromptu gathering! Sent from my LG-H932 using Tapatalk2 points

^ Yes. It is more hard sci-fi than it is fantasy sci-fi. Crichton fan here as well.1 point

Never heard of it looks cool. Out if curiosity the cover says it's grounded in cutting edge science. I love Michael Crichton books for that vreason books like Prey and Sphere and Jurassic Park. Would this be something for a Crichton fan? Sent from my LG-LS998 using Tapatalk1 point

i liked the first and third book better then the second. i think part of it might be related to the translation by Ken Liu, which just felt better/more natural to me then joel martinsens work. i didn't think about it when reading the dark forest, but something just felt a bit off. when i started reading death's end it became immediately apparent though, as it recaptured that missing essence from the dark forest.1 point

Went to PRS Experience today for a couple hours, that was fun. Didn't buy anything. And this is why I don't usually do pictures -- the one guitar I was most fond of -- a beautiful private stock with a magenta/fuchsia top, fretboard, and headstock, didn't come out for some reason (I had just changed my battery). Either that or I forgot to take a picture of it. https://imgur.com/gallery/OqTx9iH1 point

This is the new version of this ES. amp using a pair of Mundorf Supreme EVO instead of input transformers. When using coupling capacitors, the ground is not isolated anymore like a line input transformer with Faraday shield, and <1M grid risistors should be connected to the grids of ECC88 to establish a -420V DC bias voltage, which is the same bias voltage as transformer input version. This capacitor coupled version sounds more straightforward, more transparent, but with less "transformer distortion" which is a fraction of traditional "tuby sound". And finally, the finished amp with power supply unit in one of my friends home.1 point

For some reason that reminded me of Pink Floyd's 1969 stage equipment on the cover of Ummagumma Live. Pretty primitive given the monster rigs at modern concerts. And a little van to fit it all in. The amps and speakers were designed by Charlie Watkins (WEM), who toured with the band and mixed for them. Watkins also did the multi-kW sound systems for the Stones, Hendrix, the Isle of White festival - one of the titans of sound reinforcement. My son has a WEM Dominator bass guitar cabinet that I picked up for nothing, and sorted out when Watkins was still alive and sent me parts to refurbish it (he was a really nice guy you could just phone up). Died in 2014 at the age of 91.1 point

Moving day! New furnitature looks amazing in the new place. Hat tip to @Hopstretch who sold me his family’s old dining room set. My old apartment was too small for a dining room table so I’ve been eating meals at home on the couch or at my desk for years. Now I get to eat at a table like an adult. Feels good, man!1 point
