  1. Another smd Dynalo is born, verry happy that i could manage that. First time hand soldering so much smd parts und my eyes getting older. Was not easy but worked out and the sound is great. Gets very hot with the 422 402 ohm, same heat as the one from pars. I use my seekpro form some thermal pictures after 45min, for me ok when i use it but wouldn't give it away with this heat. For the Heatsinks i used thermal adhesive, due the different ems from raw alluminium the thermal camera show the temp to low, they are hotter then the pcb but not over ca 80 c. Hottest parts are the small transistors. Tip to measure raw alluminium with a heat gun stick a black adhesive tape over it. Thanks for the group buy of the pcb, the group buy of the case and all the support i get from this great forum.

  4. As an illustration, when I was young and innocent I once decided to discharge a power supply capacitor by putting a screwdriver across its terminals. The resulting spark produced a 2mm divot in the blade. A plastic diaphragm is a bit more delicate than a tool steel screwdriver blade. To quote somebody or other: "Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment."

  7. I gotta try more Rye's. Flipping among Rittenhouse, Pikesville, and Lot 40 rye, that Rittenhouse a damn good deal and at healthy 100 proof too!

  8. He tends to do shorter legs, but more of them, I wouldn't give up hope in 2019. Notice the dates on his site barely go past February. That's only 3 or 4 months away. I know I missed him in the DC area in a previous leg of the same tour -- the Philly date is already at least the second leg, and there could well be a third. To the Bone just won prog album of the year according to Prog magazine, so it wouldn't surprise me if he did a 3rd and a 4th leg. Interspersed with remixing yet another artist's entire catalog. Because he's a workaholic.

  11. RIP Alexander Hyland, 25, Elementary school teacher, Tacoma, WA. My buddy Alex died yesterday. He had a brain tumor and after multiple surgeries and treatments, just couldn't beat it. One of the last things he said to me was "I'm Scared." He was one of the most interesting people I've met, even though I've known him but a short time. I met him through Mensa when I first went to a Mensa of Western Washington event. His mother (our prez) introduced us, and we hit it off immediately. A formidable foe in a match of wits, and on more than one occasion he wore a shirt that said "I had brain surgery; what's your excuse?" He wore this while wearing gauze on his head covering electrodes tied to basically an industrial strength TENS unit mated to his head, in a bag he carried around. At the end, his mother wouldn't let anyone but close family in to the hospital to see him, even though he had many friends who wanted to be there. It feels like he died alone, even though we were just outside the proverbial door. We had some good conversations in the weeks leading up to his passing, but this one hurts. He was my favorite person of the new people I've met here, and I've lost too many fucking people lately. We planned on having a drink together, but with his meds when we met, we couldn't. By the time we could, it was too late. Alex, tonight, for you, I'll bring out the biggest gun I have -- usually saved for celebrations, but today, in memoriam.
