  1. The politically correct alternative is to treat the story as the rubbish it is. Stop the presses, Apple is in business to make money. Who knew .

  2. Does he stop the grandfather clock collection when he's listening to music? And even if stopped what about the chime resonating? I went so far as to use a swept sine in my room to identify what was in there ringing along to the music. And moved offending items to another room. From Nelson Pass's description of a monster transmission line subwoofer "Funny things happen when your speakers are flat to 13 Hz. You have to be careful about your tone arm, your windows, your neighbors, and your bowels." Article here http://www.firstwatt.com/pdf/art_elpipeo.pdf

  5. The monster 821 sounds like pretty much exactly what you're looking for. Has most (all?) of the tech from the sweet Monster 1200, plenty of power, and not at all built to bargain bike standards based on what I can find online. The BMW R NineT Urban G/S might also be worth a look.

  6. Lol. Little Jonny Bunning ("is a PhD student in the History of Science & Medicine program at Yale") so wants his academic narrative to be true, in the face of the stubborn disagreement of reality. It's adorable.

  8. I don't have have any Robyn albums (a friend of mine likes her stuff), but I've always liked Scandinavian pop, going back to Roxette (my first cassette!) and ABBA. Which reminds me – I also have to catch up on a bunch of Raveonettes albums and I'm looking forward to listening to Trentemøller's The Last Resort. I never listened to Sigur Rós in their heyday, for some reason. Some of Annie's more recent work has been uneven (you can watch her newer videos on YouTube), but I don't think anyone else does what she does as well as she does. The version of Don't Stop I received also comes with the All Night EP, so I am pretty well set with Annie material for a while. She played a DJ set at a skating rink downtown last weekend – I wish I could have seen that. I only had Anniemal too, but then I was able to get a copy of her Two of Hearts Stacey Q cover sampler on eBay (this radio-length, slightly grungy-sounding Skatebård remix is the one I had been listening to for years, and it is superior to the longer one on the disc, in my opinion):

  9. Shopping for a less gigantic motorcycle for riding around town/commuting and it seems the ones I find the most interesting will be hitting dealer floors next quarter. https://www.cycleworld.com/2019-triumph-bonneville-speed-twin-first-look The Speed Twin appears to be a more comfortable Thruxton, which is a bike I have long contemplated. https://www.indianmotorcycle.com/en-us/flat-track-race/ftr1200/ Current favorite based solely on looks as I have never set foot in an Indian dealer and the bikes there now will not even resemble their new flat trackish bike for the street. https://www.cycleworld.com/2019-ducati-diavel-first-look Kind of an outlier, but I am intrigued. https://www.ktm.com/us/naked/790-duke/ I have looked at the 1290 Super Duke previously, which is massively fun, but this smaller bike could be great if it is a bit more city friendly than the over the top Super Duke. So outside of the typical HC, buy them all vote, do any of the motorcycle casers have any thoughts?

  10. The thing that is going to replace it, El Capitan, apparently will have 10-100 times the speed and computing power of that. So North of 1 exaflop (10^18 floating point ops per second), consume 50MW of power. And it will produce the answer 42.

  13. I think that the D5000 mod only sounds like the R10 in markl's own idiotic mind. The fact that he thinks Rudi's amps are good speaks volumes... You can force them to squeal like every other ESP but it's not normal. The fart is a pretty silly name for it...
