  2. If anyone is looking to get rid of any vintage portable tape players, or *cough* one of those tempermental-ass, shitty Nakamichi Dragons, ping me. Thx.

  3. Posting some board pics, hopefully of good enough quality. #1 is the bad board, #2 is the good one.

  6. I’ve been using the new grinder for 2 days now. I haven’t compared it directly to the niche, I’ve just put it into my morning routine. It took 1 shot to dial it in, and since then, I’ve been quite happy. With my coffee (brazilian medium roast) 18.5 g in 40 g out from my Brezzera Strega lever machine I’ve been quite happy.

  7. So those are already on eBay, the Minolta MD 24/2.8 85/2 and 85/1.7 lenses are quite decent (that was the lens that I used to shoot that portait btw, works great even on the Leica SL2) but they are selling them close to market value. Maybe later on they will have an MD 35/2.8 listed as well, still a sleeper, tack sharp on digital. Edit: Canon LTM 85/2 and 135/3.5 lenses also appeared, usually pop up from Japan with fungus, haze cleaning marks, etc. they are not uncommon, but chrome versions in good condition are really hard to find. The problem with these sell-offs is that you think you find a good lens and the next day a better one comes up

  8. I should do a second post on 2009 at some point. With that said, Couple Finds Trove of 2,000 Cameras and Lenses in Storage Unit. Right here in MA.

  9. I only listened to the Viva electrostat amp with the X9000s and after going between Kerry's T2, a BHSE and the Grand Cayman, the Viva just felt... sad. Within 10 seconds I knew it was not doing a good job, just sounded kind of weak and laid back in a bad way. Plus, a $17K amp using the same shitty plastic sockets you can buy for 20 cents while paying extra to have the screws holding the thing together engraved with the brand name? Seriously not impressed.

  10. Garbage's first album, for some reason. Prior to that, I was stuck on Black Sabbath's Technical Ecstasy and Simple Minds' New Gold Dream (gosh I love those albums so much) for some reason. Probably because I haven't been liste ning to music, so my mind mentally replays whatever I know most well. So...those three albums.

  11. If that is the case, it also failed in that regard. Needed more rhinestones and chrome.

  14. It was in a loud meet room but I thought the Corina sounded fantastic from Justin's amazing new chunk of aluminum with an amp in it. I also heard the X9000 for the first time and that was pretty damn good too.

  15. Yeah, ASR pimps topping hard. I think Amir has a relationship with them. I won't bother reading... I wonder if he measured it correctly given past estat amp history?

  18. TL; DR: I’ve wanted to build a Blue Hawaii ever since I read about it on head-wize. I finally got around building a mini BH-BJT packed into a small enclosure like a can of sardines. Many small tweaks were done in attempt to reach the measured performance of the original Blue Hawaii. The details of the journey are recorded here. Many thanks to Dr. Kevin Gilmore for designing this legendary project. Thanks to Kerry, JimL, Joamat and many others for making it such a fun journey. KGBH1.pdf

  19. It’s a balanced board. Inputs in center. Outputs at far right and far left. Positive rail at top edge and negative rail at bottom. Dynahi boards mounted to 80 mm x 300 mm heat sinks. Here I’ve removed upper screws holding front and back plates to heat sinks and then “unfolded” for maintenance. To make it possible to unfold the wires are made “to long” when folded and then it looks like a snake nest. This is an Only DIY version, not to be sold... I hope this makes it a bit clearer.
