Old Evanescence Band + American Idol = ???
She sounds a lot like Amy Lee but there's a little more roughness in her voice. Plus she seems to drown out the band more than Amy. And listening to "Evanescence II" has made me realize that it was decidedly... stale. I think the time for Evanescence has passed but who knows.. people will listen to anything that record companies promote hard.

Mac Mini May Have Died Tonight
In addition to fan/heatsink problems, there might be something wrong with ACPI or thermal management. I have never seen a computer that doesn't automatically shut down at 90 C. Those temps are quite extreme.

These guys had better be good cuz this is no easy task.

Battlestar Galactica
Part of it has to do with the expectation. I was perfectly happy with how it ended but for most people, with that much suspense for so many years, it's just impossible to have a satisfactory ending. Take Lost for example. What's the proper way to end that without disappointing anyone?

New Outlaw compact subwoofer.
Rythmik Audio servo subwoofer 12" F12 This is also very highly regarded. Bigger and heavier but direct servo. Specs and frequency response claims 14Hz.

Desktop Suggestions
I seriously doubt you could do it for $100 less with a C2D unless you go used. Probably closer to $30-50 if you use a decent motherboard. I'd recommend a P45 chipset like this: Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards I'd recommend a PSU in the 500-600W range. The Corsair VX line is excellent. For something cheaper, Antec is alright but quite a bit louder. Don't buy a combo PSU+case. The PSUs tend to have a high failure rate.

Last.fm shakeup.
They're probably going to make it a more commercial venture. Features via subscription etc.. The pages will probably end up facebook-ish. Probably time to quit like I did facebook.

Imogen Heap - Ellipse
The release's been pushed back about 4 times now. Sept. 08, Dec. 08, April/May, June/July, and now August 4th. This one seems more official since she's actually finished the album earlier this month but it was still from her blog. Not sure if this was confirmed by RCA.

Windows 7 Release on Oct 23rd 2009?
I think he's talking about edition upgrades, not OS upgrades.

Windows 7 Release on Oct 23rd 2009?
Does it force you to put in the XP/Vista CD to verify?

Imogen Heap - Ellipse
Same. Been looking forward to this for a few years now. From what little's been revealed, it should be quite good. Looking forward to that "little bird" track. I have a feeling it might be a tad bit too mainstream, though.

Windows 7 Release on Oct 23rd 2009?
The pricing on Windows 7 upgrade is attractive but I'd rather keep Vista than do an MS upgrade. I'll probably just spend the extra and get the full version.

FET-A v. Gilmore Lite/GS-1?
I got a chance to try to absorbine_sr's FET-A(forgot source) vs. morphsci's GS-X (with 840C) a few months ago oddly enough with single ended K340s. I preferred the FET-A sound sig but GS-X was technically much better. GS-X had better imaging and more extended highs. FET-A was tubey with rolled off highs. If I were to choose between the two, I'd pick the FET-A but that's a personal preference. I would imagine that the GS-1 would have similar performance as the SE output of the GS-X. I would also guess that the difference would have been more subtle with easier to drive phones. You might want to ask Jim. He might have been able to A/B them.

Upgrade from Quad 12L
Yep, that's exactly what I'm doing. Thanks for the clarification. Looks like there's not too many recommendations. Realistically, could I get away with large floorstanders if I'm listening from 6ft away? Something like Monitor Audio RS6.

Upgrade from Quad 12L
Also, I'm running them(the quads) in a balanced system so it's a pain to figure out how to work a sub in.
