Nifty, nifty Mikey's 50! Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday Mikey! Interesting bread and alcohol combo memory just surfaced (maybe Tice will know about this one too). I grew up in a "dry" county in Georgia (Dekalb). In those days that meant no beer no wine no nothing. If they couldn't get moonshine or get something from Atlanta hard core alcoholics used to drink Solox. Solox was a shellac thinner and it was poisonous. My buddies and I came across a Solox camp while we were fooling around in some woods. There were a couple of empty gallon cans of Solox and what was left of some loaves of bread. My friend told me that they would strain the thinner through the bread and then they could eat/drink it and just get mildly sick. I remember telling my mom about it and she didn't believe it. Luckily, you won't need to strain that single malt through your beautiful artisan bread. Cheers me brother!

RIP someone or another
That reminds me of an guy I did some work for and got to know a little. He died in a small aircraft that crashed off the coast of So Cal. While I was working on his house I noticed some pictures in his study (he was a lawyer) of some old Marine airplanes. Turns out he flew in Korea (peace keeping unit I guess). He told me some great stories and it was obvious that he still loved to fly. A decade or so after that I heard that he'd died when his engine conked out while he was over Northridge. It's said that he must have known he'd never make a safe landing so he turned out to sea where he died. RIP Rodger Maino

When I was looking for a place/town/state to move to, Humboldt County was on my short list. One of the reasons was the music scene in Eureka and the towns around Humboldt State University. I haven't thought about it in a while but one thing I had planned to do was look up Chuck Johnson over in Ferndale. He was making some outstanding music videos called the "Humboldt Live Sessions". Check it out (there are quite a few with interesting acts in interesting settings). BTW, if you stick around to the end, Humboldt State is heavy on the study of everything ocean.

And now what did you do TODAY?
I'm rooting for you Jacob! Steve, I'm sure you'll impress them with your skills and experience. As long as you don't shit in the bosses pickup, I'm sure you'll be okay.

Home Audio Help (for a friend)
I'm with Doug's first post. Start with a clean slate and hire an AV contractor and do it right. Trying to patch things together is a sure path to regrets in a new house.

Sennheiser HD 800 Redux
I bought a solder pot just for tinning Cardas wire. It makes soldering their wire a snap. Without one, it's a total pain!

Sound City reopens!
I hope most of us have seen the doc of Sound City if not, shame on you! Well, I guess I'm a little biased when it comes to the golden age of recording studios and the like. The good news is that they've cleaned and preened the old place and it's now open for business once again! Complete with a full compliment of Ampex and 3M tape machines and a legendary Helios console. Check it out! https://www.soundcitystudios.com/

New Magnepan 30.7!
Wow! I might just have to visit a show to hear those when they get into the wild. I was one of those folks who fell in love with the 3 panel Tympani's along with a pair of Janus subs, and Audio Research electronics (including crossovers). They were playing "The King James Version" Harry James on Sheffield direct to disk at Garland Audio in San Jose. It ruined me!

And now what did you do TODAY?
One of the reports I read said there were wind gusts up to 75 mph! I was shocked that a major metro area like Santa Rosa could be affected by a forest fire until I read that. Wind like that overcomes normal fire breaks like freeways and sparsely forested neighborhoods. It also makes firefighters jobs impossible.

And now what did you do TODAY?
I've been watching the news briefs on the fire. Very scary stuff! Santa Rosa- looks like some of the neighborhoods are evacuated. Be safe!

Audiophile Chairs
Headrests like that can make a significant difference in the sound. For a mild demonstration, listen normally than fold your hands behind your head like they often show in "dad's relaxing" pictures. To me it sounds a little like having some room treatments (maybe reducing some early reflections?). So, just because it changes the sound doesn't mean that's a bad thing. For casual listening, it's obviously up to you.

RIP HH! His tv shows were some of my early exposures to Be Bop. And those xmas issues with the fancy audio systems,.. now that I think about it, maybe he was a major influence in my life? Off to buy a silk robe and Canadian pipe! Sorry to hear about Ashbery too. Thanks for the notice Stretch.
