When We Rise
I was doing some temp work in a small hospital back in the early days and we had one patient on the floor who had AIDS. He was lucky that there were friends there 24/7 to keep him company. His family loved him but were too afraid to visit so they would call him once a day. The other nurses were very professional but you could tell that they were also afraid. The patient was more afraid than anyone though. I can't remember ever seeing someone who was falling into such a deep depression. I used to have to collect myself every time I left his room.

Wow! RIP Bill Paxton. He was at the forefront of a generation of actors that I've always felt close to for some reason. Very sad.

Formula 1 Thread
Well, here we go! Winter testing on Monday and most of the teams have unveiled their cars. They look big and sound pretty mean (from the little I can tell from limited videos). I have high hopes for the new season and the new management (but there's nothing new there). I was looking at some of the info and thinking just how crazy it is that a team like Ferrari have over a thousand people working toward the new season and only 3 people will be allowed to drive those cars. It is one wacky way to sell software, and airline tickets and ... http://www.skysports.com/f1/news/12433/10780862/sky-sports-f1-exclusive-the-mercedes-w08-on-track

And now what did you do TODAY?
That should be very cool! I went to Charlotte for a race when I was a kid (don't remember which race?) but it was very impressive! TV really doesn't do racing justice. Enjoy!

I love Snarky Puppy! Was there any mention of them playing with other orchestras around the country?

Got my intro to modern jazz with A Genuine Tong Funeral from the Gary Burton Quintet with Coryell. Although I never had the pleasure of seeing him live, the favorite solo album of his was Spaces with John McLaughlin. RIP Larry Coryell!

Looks fantastic! Always wanted to learn to laminate with nice woods (without the blood). Can't wait to see how it comes out!

Yup, that's a classic concert film! I love that early tv clip of Musical Box too. I'm always shocked at how young everybody looks but the energy is out of this world! I might sound like my parents but "I don't think I was ever that young!"

I really loved everything about that video. The video editing was so fluid and natural that it never distracted or seemed out of place. And the sound! The Royal Albert Hall just embraced the performance with just the right bit of reverb and warmth. And whoever did the mix/mastering did an awesome job! Maybe the bass was a little "one note-ish" but it was forward and loud just like most live performances. I'm sure they could have hyped the bass with a heavy DI (direct injection as opposed to the microphone feed from the amps) but that almost always makes the bass sound unnaturally tight and not at all what the audience hears. Of course, I would have loved to see Pete and Tony Banks up there but that would be another concert.

RIP Al Unique is a good word for him. I got a chance to talk with him a few years back and he was very friendly and open. He will be inspiring vocalists for ages.

All DMV's are not created equal (even in Ca). In another life, I was a driving instructor so I had to go to the DMV at least once a day. You get to know those places pretty well. Among the 9 that I'd frequent, 2 were worth going to even if you had to make a 30 min drive to get there. 4 were crazy bad and one had a tendency to discriminate against just about anybody that could be called "different". I had one older student that took the driving test at that one and flunked out twice. They told him he should consider selling his car and giving up driving. I couldn't understand it. Even though he looked ancient, he drove a lot better than some young guys. He had one more chance to get his license (without jumping through a lot of additional hoops). I told him to go to one of my 2 favs and he got 100% and the testing guy complimented him on how well he was driving. Ask around and maybe check Yelp. Reks experience is not unusual.
