Always kind of liked them, though never picked anything up....I think the Hyundai commercial they did some time ago (shit, was it really 2010?!) caught my attention....

Didn't have them at the same time, but I had the Ares, then later got the Soekris 1541 DAC/Amp (still have that). About twice as much, but definitely more refined, a bit more transparent, and I THINK a bit better extension at both frequency extremes. Twice as good? No....but better overall. I also owned the USB-powered 1101....not as good as the desktop unit, but better than several other DAC/amp units I had tried at work. BTW, the amp sections on the 1541 is just good, not great. A fair bit lost compared to putting the line outs to a nicer external amp. I'm using mine with an ECP DSHA-3F (custom output for the Focal phones).

RIP to someone I never met, but for whom I had a tremendous respect. In another niche-forum, HFBoards (HF = Hockey's Future), a woman named Barbara passed away this morning. Her username was Fugu on that forum. She had metastasized breast cancer, and fought for 4 years after it was rediscovered. She was an early member, one of the most respected moderators & mentors, and from all accounts of her postings and stories about her, just an incredibly kind and thoughtful human being. The latest albums from some favorite artists aren't quite grabbing me like earlier albums: Anna Calvi - Hunter Loreena McKennitt - Lost Souls London Grammar - Truth Is A Beautiful Thing All are good, but none have sucked me in like prior albums.....hoping the new Cowboy Junkies (probably listen to that later tonight) will reverse that trend.....

RIP Claire....such a beautiful woman with an incredible message. One of our family friends has two kids with CF, and some great strides have been made, with one type of CF potentially having a cure! Unfortunately, our friends' kids have a different type. But they are both coping, with meds, exercise, diet changes, etc. Yet they still face many of the same challenges this young lady faced. They are both in college and doing as well as possible. Wishing all the best to her family, friends, and all those impacted by CF in some way or another.
