  1. Read your OP and slap yourself until you understand that you appear insane. If that epiphany does not arrive before you black out, leave and never come back. Oh, and 20 amp pro grade receptacles are generally heavier than the contractor grade 15 amp receptacles that are standard in houses. Ergo, more metal, and 20 amp rated placebo. Finally, if "they" were going to throw the receptacles out, why the hell did you pay for them? My head hurts.
  2. I was referring to whatever the general consensus of the resolution of the analog information within the LP grooves were if it was put into PCM terms. I have heard that it is somewhere between a 96kHz and 192kHz sampling rate (but probably lower than a 16 bit depth), but I have not really devoted the time to explore it further. Going with that (perhaps erroneous assumption), I posted the above. Looks like more than 4x the resolution, but I digress. I think my setup is good, but there are no room treatments to speak of, so a well recorded redbook is more than fine with me.
  3. I have never read anything credible that sways me into believing anything more than 24/192 for playaback is even worth pursuing. I can get behind 32 bit for mixing and whatnot, but 768kHz sampling? People rave about LP realism, but at 32/768, that's like 3-4 times the resolution of even the best pressed LPs. Please do not confuse me for a "640k is enough for most people" person (I am definitely not), but that strikes me as recording for greater wax moths rather than humans. Any merit to this practice, Dusty, or is it tech gamesmanship?
  4. I was thinking the exact same thing. Look at that smug fucker. He knows there are 24 dumb bastards out there.
  5. He aspires to be, for a lack of a better term, your custom title
  6. What people are saying is that unless the cable is shit, it should not color the sound, analog or digital. Something like Bluejeanscable stuff and be done with it. Anything more is out of looks preferences or sheer stupidity.
  7. That confirms it, Justin, and thank you for reminding me why I hate that place.
  8. Thanks, Nate. Not surprised in the slightest, Justin. He did not get very far in the Rig-Talk forum
  9. Does this link look familiar? Hmmm, alpha215 and this dipshit... same guy? Could the mods change this post so Mr. Two Accounts does not get any hits back to his IndieGoGo account?
  10. The whole business model encourages shilling; it's disgusting. Justin, I do believe that it is a referral link. The share URL is "http://igg.me/at/geekpulseaudio2" and the "x/number" at the end is probably his account.
  11. Panoramic Ball, anyone? : http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/panono-panoramic-ball-camera I prefer to take my own (and no matter how convenient they are, I would not be caught dead taking pictures with a smartphone style camera anywhere I want to remember), but the idea is pretty cool. Just not $500 bucks cool. Those are some rather homely looking sample photos.
  12. Nice. I have been on the same bender as well lately. I can confidently say that Pirut is, overall, my favorite Kauan album (though Valveuni, from Ava Tuulen Maa, is my favorite track). By the way, Dusty, did you download any of the albums from Bandcamp? I ask this because my digital copy of Pirut was 24/44.1, and I was curious if any of the other albums' digital versions are 24 bit. Nope, 16 bit .flac. Oh well, I hope Anton puts that dollar to good use. I already bought a CD copy a long time ago.

  14. Yep, I heard about this a while ago. Major bummer, as I do not like LCD technology overall. Just goes to show that consumers, as a whole, are idiots.
  15. I appreciate the thought, but I cannot afford even an extreme lowball offer right now. I hope I did not get your hopes up. For what it's worth, I have seen really good condition pairs go for about $2,000 - 2,500 last time I was interested in crying. About the same for a PS-1. Both my dream phones. But it has been a while, so the numbers might be off.
  16. That's the running joke with my students. They always say, "How do you put up with both us and your children?" "Drugs. Lots of drugs," I reply. Some do not know whether I am BSing them again or telling the truth. Considering I am about as straightedge as it gets in the drugs/alcohol department, I find it to be quite amusing. Thanks Another running joke. I tell my coworkers that my weekend starts on Monday morning. It'll work out, but the first 6 month or so will be pure misery, what with the lack of sleep and all.
  17. Thanks, guys. It was a relatively low key birthday today. Cake and a few presents from wife and kids and the like, but fine with me. I never was much of a big party person. And in other news, what better way to enter my thirties with the wife being pregnant with identical twin girls. They will most likely be born in March. That'll make it one boy and four girls. Anyone have a recommendation for a four barrel shotgun and earplugs for when they reach teenagehood and "synch" up? FML
  18. I bought a copy of Kauan's newest album Pirut a while ago. As I am sure some of you are aware, lots of bands now do instant downloads after purchase of a CD for presale. I could not wait for the CD (and it is lossless anyway), so I downloaded it. What I did not know right off the bat was the .flac I downloaded was 24 bit and the CD obviously would only be 16 bit. I am not going to really investigate whether the 24 bit copy has any technical advantage over the CD version in this case, but I figure it would at least be one step further up the chain to as close to the actual master as possible. Long story short, I was curious about the wavforms. Feast you eyes on this: I thought I'd never live to see something like this again in the kind of music I like! Granted, it's not straight up doom metal, but the knob turner did not go nuts nonetheless. I find the mix to be very well done, and due to the fact that it is not compressed to hell, cranking the volume really yields some great transients. Not 1812 Overture transients but still a DR of 12 is pretty damn good. I love the artwork from this band:
