Happy Birthday!

Looking over the print again, I totally missed the "As a Geek Force member, we want you to be able to get another Geek Pulse, Geek Pulse X, and/or Geek Blue at an even lower price than we've offered before" part. I am sure that many people did as well. Looks like they backed themselves into quite the corner with the lack of big writing informing new people (like me) that this was only for existing customers, the odd donation buttons, and the fact that there are no refunds (and, by extension, no cancellations, I suppose). Either they have to honor the price for people like me who followed the directions correctly (but were not really eligible to begin with), or they have to find a way to refund the sale price. Either way, I am betting they learned a LOT from this sale. And yeah, this is not really sufficient as demonstrated here : This offer is for Geek Force members only. Please don't let this get out!

Well, it was a ridiculously stupid way it was set up. Not sure if it was the limits of the website or they just have a devious sense of humor, but yeah, I can see how lots of people would screw up their part of the deal. Also, according to their own FAQ, there are no refunds, so yeah...

Yeah, at 189, I got this over the Emotiva at $249 today pretty much for the smaller footprint. I needed another way to be able use my speakers, sub, and headphones without doing any cable swapping (DAC1 does XLR and RCA simultaneously... if I was made of money, a DAC2 would make this problem go away). My Lynx AES is definitely up for all sorts of output, but the DAC 707 I have now sends a HUGE thump to my sub when the sample rate changes, so I have not used my sub in a long time. I used the DAC1 for the speakers and headphones and sent the LFE to the DAC 707. At $189, I can ditch the 707 and play around to see what works best. But the USB cable spiel is still a bunch of horse shit.

I used to play all the time with family members. I would not call myself great by any means, but it's a great game when you are equally matched.

Don't break the cardinal rule here: learn the place before you just jump in. It's a lot like when you first start working at a new job. Get a feel for the place, then jump in... assuming you are not a: ... And Knucks has the last one covered

How in the world did I miss this thread? I love cheese, especially the aged stuff with medium intensity. Each time I go to Costco, I pick up one or two of these: But this stuff is the mother-load: 4 year old comté. Effing drool...

I can only imagine what the TICE has to say about this -

Deepak, I am not sure if you have a Nikon or Canon 1D series DSLR, so this advice might come as limited use, but I'll say it anyway. I had the same exact problem as you with my D300 and the counter looped over right in the middle of my France trip, and I knew nothing about it until I got home, transferred the files over, and went "where the hell are all the other files?" Because of the way I stored my files according to camera model and large trips, I was in a huge bind. I did a lot of research to find a solution, and I found a perfect program that I use every time I transfer pictures to my computer now. The program is called Downloader Pro. It is totally customizable in that you can take EXIF data and use it to create a file name however you want. For example, my file names are formatted like "2008-11-19 - NIKON D300 - 000009". What you might find useful is that you can tag your files based on the counter in your camera to the hundred thousands column. I now have files that are past 15,000 in their naming scheme, so even if I combine every single shot I have ever taken into one folder, there will be absolutely no overwrite dialogue or worries about having the wrong chronological order, because all of the info is in the file name now. The reason why I asked if you had a Nikon or Canon DSLR is there is an r86 function that uses the actual counter in the camera, and I am not sure how it would work with another camera brand or type. The program works with all cameras, but I have not had a looping problem with any other camera, as I pretty much shoot with my D300 now. Anyway, I hope this helps. At the very least, the automated file name scheme kicks ass. -
I have to ask, did you laugh after you typed that?

Things ended up the way they usually do: the wheat from the damn chaff. We hardly knew ye, Bunchy Panties. I'll admit, the OP made me laugh in a pat on the head kind of way.

May 2nd is a Friday night. Hell, I might go just to see ReVamp. I hate the Hollywood area though. Definitely thinking about it, since who knows when they will be in town again. I used to be a big Iced Earth fan, but the phase kind of passed me. There are some great songs, but the newer albums... meh.

Then you have not really paid attention. This place is not a club full of uppity hipsters. If you have something to say, by all means say it. Just be aware that if it is a lame rehash of Head-fi drivel or you are suffering from sociopathic tendencies, you will be mocked and perhaps banned. It's been a while since I read the welcome PM, but I'll sum it up for you: if you walk into a bar full of people who know each other to some degree, you do not just start talking like you are one of them. Observe, get a lay of the land, find out what people like and what sets them off, and then you can jump right in. It sounds hard, but it isn't. Ball is in your court

For some reason, the tag will not work for the youtube video above. I have tried everything. Edit: Fixed the odd syntax at the end of the link. -

Some of the albums mentioned pique my interest. Very eclectic tastes here. The standout surprise for me was there was no mention of a Beatles album. I am not a fan at all, but they are in so many peoples' top-of-the-head lists. I also found it interesting that there was not one metal album mentioned, and four of my five are. I am definitely a musical outlier I love so many non metal albums, but the ones I constantly turn to the most just happen to be those... much to my wife's elation

I figured it was that way, but the way I read it, I had to ask.

Nate: either you are giving thad and/or Astro one last warning or you are telling luvdunhill and myself to stfu. If the former, I guess you are going easy on them; if the latter, I'd say that's very uncharacteristic of this place, what with the frequent use of "cunt" and all of its derivatives and many other such colorful terms thrown about at newbs who act like idiots. If you do not like the thread, cool, but this thread is not a whole lot different than a plethora of others in the past. Either way, I'll bow out.
