  1. True Dusty; the shape lends itself to that. Regarding the picture, the second part of that picture that is wrong is the bottom shot is not of Nagasaki. That is a town up by Sendai if I remember correctly. Nagasaki is way to the southeast. Edit: Yep. See here: http://www.snopes.com/photos/architecture/nagasaki.asp
  2. I don't care who you are, that is funny shit... even if you were serious. As to your question, you are not a big enough of a seasoned grumpy asshole to warrant a well thought out answer from the peanut gallery I'll take a shot, as I am not a pro by any means, but pretty much everything in the build changes the frequency response and many other sound affecting attributes. The enclosure, the driver material, the impedance, the magnets used, the tautness of the membrane, and the material and geometry of the cable (never underestimate its plankton retrieval importance) all affect the sound. I am sure that the engineers have all of this in mind even before the prototype is built. Kind of like building a car. Then, once the prototype is built, the final tweaks are made. Then and only then will Birgir and Kevin give their seal of approval, as any model released without a Mafia endorsement will surely end up an utter failure. Oh, and the cable bit was a bit of bullshite. Or, if I am way off... Turtles.
  3. It it that time again? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L34S4Tt1EuQ
  4. <--- My reaction to so many questions from my students through the years. This .gif is so damn perfect. The more I stare at it, the better it gets.
  5. Some good burn-in reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychoacoustics and http://www.coconut-audio.com/

  7. You got that right. Jesus, that had to take some time. He definitely has conviction. But Justin is right, sample size of one done casually? It makes for an interesting read though. I never knew of some of those types.
  8. As a followup to Universal, check out the wavforms: That confirmed my suspicions: while I was watching the Blu-Ray, I kept thinking about how great the sound was. Not only is there no limiting, the mix is fantastic (maybe a bump in the drums). Only a stereo 24/48, but aside from the lack of surround, nobody would be able to tell this resolution from anything higher. Easily one of the best sounding concerts I have seen. Put this on your short list, Dusty!
  9. Happy Birthday. Your builds are works of art.
  10. How in the hell could this gem have slipped past me? I am not sure how an Anathema concert can be imagined to be any better than this. The setlist, the orchestra, the execution, the venue - it's absolutely flawless. Holy hell, this album is up there with the best live albums I have ever seen and heard. Breathtaking! Any fans of Anathema NEEDS to see this! A good review if you are interested: http://www.popmatters.com/review/anathema-universal/
  11. The last part of my post was not to you, though it might be unclear. Dan, sometimes some of your posts (due to their pithy nature) do not come across to me as you might have intended, so let me know if what I send your way does not jive. Hospital outlets are built really well and do not really lose their grip on the plug over time, and if you are going to rewire or do renovation, I would splurge for them for that reason easily, but it would be for that reason alone.
  12. Naamanf said what I wanted to, so I don't want to pile on, but he never mentioned anything like that, so I figured your stance was normal fit vs. tight fit, hence my reply. Anyway, I REALLY hate that "try it and you'll see for yourself" shit. Reminds me of Shill-Fi. My BS meter was alerted with the IC sale and the word "neutral" in describing one of them.
  13. I just cannot see a decrease in resistance by a slight increase in grip. By the way, the "professional" grade Leviton outlets at Home Depot grip like bastards, so it's not just hospital grade outlets.
  14. How in the fuck can you be an electrician when you say such nonsense? You are wrong, and I do not need to spend shit. I understand simple principles of electricity that were apparently not in your training. It'll be the new trend, just you wait.
