Interesting "headphone amp"
http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?preatube&1192058776 I'm not sure what it is, or what tubes those are...but it does look funky enough to be a "collector's" amp.

Happy Birthday Tyll
Happy Belated Birthday!.... I hope you got a nice discrete, class A amp to celebrate or at least some tubes.

Post the last thing you bought!
- I love it when an impulse buy works out.....
damn that's sweet.- The Ultimate All in one
I think on the inside they are the same, but all the RCA connectors and 1/4th headphone jack appeared of cheaper quality to me. The power supply also got smaller, but I don't know what the deal is with that. on the plus side, the newer ones have a cooler paint job.- The Ultimate All in one
that's what I thought too....- The Ultimate All in one
I've seen that one... (if I were you I'd hold off for a first generation model). I'm being interviewed constantly, I even got rejected from that crazy lady's place. I'm going to this place on telegraph... If i Get It, I promise to buy the L3K (or at least a qualia)!- Need help with an important life decision
chick 2, by a wide margin. Chick 1 looks high maintenance. Chick 2 looks chill and relaxed.- Hey
hey. I want to read your review of all the gear you've never heard.- Review Gear You Haven't Heard
Hi As you can see, I usually think things suck before I hear them 1. the AKG-240= it sucks. it really sucks. 2. The original Grado 325= it still sucks. 3. Westone 3= It sucks 4. The Cary 306 SACD- not bad, I thought my VDA-2 is better 5. The original Stax Omega- it sucks 6. Lehmann Black Cube Linear- It sucks- slow forum
Who is Merton and what is "Pinkie's forum"???- The Ultimate All in one
Don't put your hopes on this... I've been tittering on the edge of getting a bassoon for years and whenever the whim comes to me, it usually goes away in a week. I think I just posted that to make conversation really... because I'll probably find another way to fund a bassoon.. and all this is dependent on where I move for the school year... so It is entirely possible...but yea, i'll wait. sorry. I was probably too early to the trigger there. But if you have a Supra XLR, why the hell would you care for a Zana Deux?- The Ultimate All in one
Hey, Jocelyn, Nice to see you joining us. turns out that I may have missed my opportunity to live with the crazy lady. doesn't matter, I want something bigger and better now: A Basssoon. I regularly have dreams of playing it again, and I think it's about time to make my dreams come true. Taking offers for the ZD, but not sold on selling it yet So I think I will get an all-in-one to make up for that... a balanced dac I guess (apogee, lavry, benchmark, or bel canto?) tell me what you think.- The Ultimate All in one
LOL. Thanks everyone. one full week of searching, and sadly... her place is still atop the pile. looking for rooms in Berkeley is sorta a race to the bottom. (example: a frat was renting rooms, but renters are not allowed in the living room or kitchen!). In any case, I'm interested in that qualia CDP. does it have digital inputs?- The Ultimate All in one
1. The thing that bothers me is that this is the best place to rent from so far, however I am looking at 5 more places this weekend. hopefully one of them is better than this lady's place. 2. In this arrangement, she pays all the utilities, so that makes it important to her that no one waste electricity. After having been to the place, I'm pretty sure that no one there would use the power that I would. And, yes she is crazy... she got on my case and started being very accusatory when I told her about my gear... 3. My latest power bill was $60, 4. I'm thinking of building a file cabinet... that will have a headphone cord sticking out of it. 5. Standing up to the landlord is a bit tricky... they've been fucking cal students for years. Last year, most wouldn't rent to one of my friends because he was disabled... and they got away with it! I've seen them enter and give tours without the tenant's permission...if there are laws, they are rarely followed. 6. Ken, sorry. I am going to try to keep it (at least for this week) you'll have to to take that petty second production Zana Deux with it's cheaper parts, hazy tubes and smaller power supply. 7. I'm going to visit more places.. but for the most part, places are bad to worse in this town.- The Ultimate All in one
the visual of it all will still probably get her pissed at me.- The Ultimate All in one
Okay. I've been applying to new apartments and they keep asking me about my stuff (Berkeley people are notoriously stressing over conservation and such). The thing is that my rig keeps freaking people out: i use alot of electricity and many power cords and shit. At minimum i use: 1 outlet for my music hard drive, 1 outlet for my sound card, 1 outlet for my transport, 1 outlet for my dac, and 1 outlet for my Zana Deux. This is bad... very bad. It doesn't look good and such. The thing is that I want to say away from making me rig into a "benchmark dac-1 with usb." or worse a corda opera. If i do decide to consolidate, I want something that's gonna be the shit. here are my ideas, and your input is very much needed for this. thankyou. 1. Buy a headroom balanced home with max modules. 2. Buy a wadia CDP and use the balanced out on that. 3. Buy some kick ass dac with balanced output... but which? 4. keep my current rig, hope the land lady doesn't notice.- Another reminder to stay away from the Edition 9's...
LOL. the ED9 is a very unique headphone, for very particular music tastes.- The Live Music Thread
420 dollars for the saturday B concert series (7 concerts) with the San Francisco symphony OR.... New Power cord for my dac and some tubes...... (hard decision!)- Without further adork...
6.5 hours of straight listening to the w5000.... it sucks. i'm sorry.- The Need To Disassociate
my parents made me listen to only religious music... thus I'm only discovering real music now that I've gone to college (result= audiophile).- When do you consider an amp "high end"
my excuse is that no one builds the balanced tube amp I want.- Do I set out looking for an R10?
It's a very abnormal headphone.... i would call it far from neutral. It is extraordinarily musical however, with a funky midrange, sparky treble and well articulated bass. It's sound stage was impressive. Sorry i can't say more- slow forum
I work for a university for 7-8 hours, I should quit. - I love it when an impulse buy works out.....
