  1. The X1 sounded awesome but was too small for my head. Even though Tyll says the new one is bigger I'm still suspicious of one size fits all mechanisms. Just let me adjust it damn it.
  2. For virus protection, I've been running Microsoft Security Essentials for years now, and haven't had a malware or any other incident since. I use JRiver to import all my CDs. I use JRiver for everything, easily the best music library management software I've ever used. Actually using its crossfeed function right now, pretty nice.
  3. Thanks so much for your impressions. Sounds freaking awesome!
  4. The HD800 is awesome though. Make music sound good.
  5. the new mastersounds are awesome.
  6. Yeah but physical buttons. Not having those is where Tim Cook fucked up on the 6. So long apple.
  7. I have not played with a 6+ yet. Would be very interested to hold one in my hands and tinker with it. I seem to like enormous phones, and I like glass/metal phones. Even if they are more fragile, they are easier and more pleasant to grip. So I'm betting I'll like the feel of the 6+.
  8. Definitely not quite as BS free as gear slutz, but I've been using AVS forum to cleanse the audiophile shit taste off my pallette a little bit. The prevailing opinions over there are A) just buy the damn amp/receiver that will give your speakers the proper power pool to draw from 2) speakers will make more of a difference to the sound then anything else and C) digital room correction is awesome. I've recently discovered how outstanding a simple receiver with Audyssey can make my PSB and SVS sub combo sing. Of course I find myself listening to way more rock and hip-hop then "audiophile" type music. I did put on some well recorded Ryan Adams to test out purity of male vocal midrange the other night. Switching between Audyssey and Direct modes offered different presentations, neither necessarily better or worse. Where Audyssey really was essential was in the bass presentation. I think Audyssey does a fantastic job of making a sub work with speakers, everything sounds much more seamless and much less boomy. Tight and impactful, its really remarkable. But with rock music Audyssey really works better across the whole spectrum. Playing Nevermind and switching Audyssey on and off, audyssey on was clearly better. It smoothed out the highs and made the whole sound more coherent, so there was nothing to distract me from Novoselics bass line in "Breed" (which is some of my favorite bass playing of all time, I don't care how simple it is). anyway thats my audyssey rant for the month. and i understand that on really kick ass speakers in a good room audyssey might do more harm than good, but for modest speakers in a nutty room its pretty outstanding.
  9. Gotcha. Likewise everything is so cloud based for me with auto picture backup and streaming music services (previously spotify now all access) I guess I just have't needed to do a connected backup.
  10. In no way trying to be a dick, just saying I haven't had to plug my phone into the computer for the past two years, unless I'm dragging and dropping some flac files. Doesn't apple do ota updates? Are yall syncing just to copy music?
  11. I'm not personally turned on by the apple hate, nor do I have any hatred toward U2, but this line to make me laugh: "The album, which I haven’t listened to yet, is terrible: even worse than their last one, which I didn’t listen to either. I don’t want to listen to any U2 albums in case I discover I like them, and have to violently reassess my own self-image."
  12. Stern said today from now on we'll call him Eric the Belligerent Angel. RIP Eric.
  13. That would be supercool, if it interests you to try it out. I've never heard the black diamond but the Neko DAC is most unique DAC i've owned. very dark and effortless, and i mean dark in a good way. i also want to say "grain free" but i hate it so much when i read that in a review.
  14. I was just thinking, anyone heard the Black Diamond with the Neko DAC? Would be interesting to hear a setup that uses transformers in lieu of other components in so many steps. Wish I would have thought of this when there was more than one Black Diamond left.
  15. thats how i was with the note 2. for about the first hour i was like "damn this thing is enormous". then it suddenly felt completely normal and awesome. next year i bought the nexus 5. really great phone, but the lure of the giant screen pulled me back, and i ended up with this sony z ultra, which is great. for my purposes, a large screen just works.
  16. The AS1000 and AS2000 models have the wood cheeks.
  17. Felt the urge for a detective book, reading Kate Atkinson's "Case Histories". I've never read her before, over halfway through and am quite smitten. Great writing, really fleshed out characters, and I still have no idea where it is heading, other than all these different strands she is weaving will come together in the end.
  18. Yeah you can look at that photograph and know it sound good.
  19. http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-visual/hifi-components/amps/a-s801/?mode=model USB DAC Supports DSD 100Wx2 ESS Technology 32-bit DAC (ES9010K2M) other shit awesome looks $999 ballin' on a budget, i dig it. I've always liked the way these Yamaha integrateds have looked the past few years.
  20. just replace "jareth" with deepak. what kind of name is jareth anyway. deepak is way better.
