  1. Congrats on three years, that is awesome! Yall will have a blast in New Orleans. Where will yall be staying? Recs: Katie's in mid-city is my current favorite "hole in the wall" type restaurant. Very reasonable prices, unbelievable seafood. My favorite is the Catfish Meuniere, which is fried catfish served over fries smothered in the most insane meuniere gravy. $16. Johnny's Po-Boys in the quarter. Line will always be out the door, check the hours I think its lunch only. Basically its like 50 million different kinds of poboys, all delicious. Cash only. Get a poboy and walk down royal street eating it, looking at all the fancy art. Cafe Du Monde. Yeah yeah its touristy but its fucking good. I go to New Orleans a lot, and I always manage to find my way there. Its 24 hours, they only serve coffee and beignets. Get a cafe au lait and a couple orders of beignets and go nuts on them. Open 24 hours, hell yeah. Daisy Dukes - right off the side of the Marriott on canal, a true hole in the wall, open 24 hours, DOPE ASS food. My favorite late night eating spot in the quarter. Get a po boy, gumbo, and pancakes, you'll go to carb heaven. And if you DO decide to splurge, since after all you are in one of the greatest food cities in the world, its hard to go wrong with Commanders Palace. You'll need a reservation and a coat and tie, but the service is top notch, and the food amazing. I had the pecan candied quail last time I went. Makes me tear up a little just thinking about it. Music wise, looking at the music calendar on wwoz: Aug 8th - Raw Oyster Cult at Tips Uptown. Tipitinas is a classic venue but when its packed its pretty miserable. Might not be your thing but Raw Oyster Cult is great. Aug 9th - Preservation Hall Jazz Band at Preservation Hall. Ashamed to admit I've never actually been in the Pres Hall venue, but I've seen PHJB countless times. Classic trad jazz, as authentic as it gets. Pres Hall is a teeny tiny venue, but there is no amplification, pure acoustic music. I highly recommend it. Right in the quarter. There is always so much going on music wise. Check out the WWOZ calendar for yourself and see if anything strikes your fancy. I don't drink either, but I always enjoy walking down Frenchmen St (the "local's bourbon st", at the back of the quarter) and seeing all the crazy people. You can wander into a lot of bars cover free and hear amazing brass band music. Don't fear the tuba. Overall safety wise, the french quarter is generally totally safe, and the CBD is pretty safe too. Just be aware of your surroundings as you would be in any other big city and you'll be fine. New Orleans is the fucking best.
  2. I love it when I'm googling for reviews of headphones and find a review I wrote 4 years ago.
  3. Finally watched the video, thank you for sharing it. Really enjoyed it. Made me want to buy Grado stuff, so their zero dollar advertising is working.
  4. "The only part of the headphones that are built off-site, according to the Grado family, is the driver. These are manufactured by one man on Long Island who doesn't work exclusively for Grado, but he has the space to put drivers together that Grado does not in its packed and rickety townhouse. The driver design was built and refined in-house, John says; it's just the handiwork that happens in Long Island." Interesting, I don't think I've ever heard exactly where the drivers come from. I always assumed China. "Here I try out two prototype models of Grado's professional variety of headphones, the GS1000e and PS1000e, while listening to The Fairfield Four. I can hardly tell the difference between them, but in each pair, I can hear each individual reverberation of the baritone singer's vocal chords." LOL. I guess the interviewer can't hear midrange.
  5. Lots of discussion at SH over this table. They are trying to decide if its truly a reborn 1200 or if its a modification of one of those chinese usb tables. They are also getting really angry with each other. For a bunch of Beatles fans the Hoffman forum is one of the angrier places on the internet.
  6. Installed a new 500gb SSD in the computer. Transferred my Steam library to it, which was totally painless. My main SSD is only 160gb, which after the space windows 7 was taking up didn't leave much room for games. Which was fine since I've pretty much just played Skyrim since 2011 (in the tiny time I actually have to play games), but its time to branch out. I was going to build a new PC, since mine is 2 years old, but it turns out its still pretty kick ass.
  7. grado rs-1i (with flats) avoid the new e series. the larger drivers make it impossible to fit inside your ear.
  8. Finally time to replace my 24" Samsung 245BW. I believe I've had it for almost 8 years. A great monitor, a real classic TN, but it's really starting to hurt my eyes, and the colors look terrible. After, no kidding, years of research, I settled on the HP 27xi: http://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-27-Inch-LED-lit-Monitor/dp/B00B332A9C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405638993&sr=8-1&keywords=hp+27xi Why the 27xi: -GLOSSY! So hard to find a glossy monitor. I know a lot of people hate glossy monitors, but my office at home has thick curtains, no worries about glare. And glossy monitors are so much easier on my eyes. -Regular ole' 1080. I don't need no fancy resolution. -Its bigger. Never had a 27" monitor. -Great reviews all around.
  9. Congrats CJ that's awesome. I love building new computers. I want to now and totally don't need to.
  10. Just turn them up louder so the basses can come through good
  11. Thanks boss, don't know how I missed that.
  12. Didn't we used to be able to change the colors and what have you of the forum? Sometimes when browsing forums all the white makes my eyes hurt, I typically turn on a dark theme if anything like that is available. Do we have that? Thank you kind sirs. -Postjack, Esq.
  13. Not a power conditioner really, but a Brick Wall, which is like a beefed up surge protector, helped me with a ground loop I had several years ago.
  14. We can assist you with helpful suggestions.
  15. ditch the PSU and rewire the computer to run on cosmic energy.
  16. 42mm. My other Christopher ward is 40mm. I'm thinking 40mm is the size for me, though I know different types of watches sit different on the wrist regardless of size.
  17. New Trident: I love it. Was worried about the size when I first put it on, and I still think its a little big for my wrist, but I still love it.
  18. The platinum shm rain dogs is awesome.
  19. NSFW Its just Blind Faith S/T - Platinum SHM-CD, but I thought I'd NSFW tag it anyway.
  20. What about the Yamaha stereo receiver line? Not sure if it fits all your needs, but check out the R-S700. I think they look really sweet.

    Audeze LCD-2

seeing companies updating their flagships every nine months make's me happier with the Sennheiser approach. "Here's your flagship HD650. It's all you are getting for the next seven years, so spend the money once and relax because they are awesome" seven years later: "Here's your flagship HD800. Its the best dynamic can ever made, because it took us seven years to make it. It's all you are getting for the next seven years, so spend the money once and relax because they are awesome." Having said that, here is hoping for the HD800BC v1.2 (Bone Conductor Version) in the next three months. Only $300 more than the HD800 and it vibrates your jaw.
  22. Melody and I have gotten into The Good Wife the past couple of weeks. It's good stuff. A standard but well done legal show, but with what is so far a great character arc for our protagonist Alicia. Its well written and well acted. In a lot of ways it reminds me of Scandal if Scandal wasn't terrible.
  23. no apple announcement nor no signs of an apple announcement, at least based on what i've read the past few weeks. the only thing that really interests me with regards to pono is the tiny possibility that they actually focus on selling quality masters. "The main source for the files will be the original analog master tapes of the top recording artists." but i think its much more likely it will be the same stuff you see at hdtracks et. al. if the retailer could just tell me the source of the recording i'd be much more likely to spend my money there.
  24. Hard to sit in the sweet spot when you are vibrating around the room. I'm thinking that rig would be like when I saw Slayer and my clothes were vibrating and I couldn't stop blinking.
