Pardon another question: I listen to a lot of internet radio and frequently change channels. I also have a DAC connected to my cable box and you know how it is with the remote... Is there an audible click when the Neko locks onto a signal like my Stello and Zhaolu or is it silent like my Constantine and DAC-AH? USG

I was wondering if the transformers get hot or warm after a few hours of use? Thanks USG

My Zhaolu won't receive a coax or optical signal....I can hear a current rush through the headphones when I power it up, but then it goes to mute.. and then nothing.... Headphone amp module doesn't work either. I use it for late night TV with an M^3, but it stopped working yesterday. It just goes to mute after I turn it on. Here are some pics, maybe some of the DIYers can spot what's wrong with it. All the leds inside light up and the muting led flashes. Nothing looks burnt or leaking, what do you guys think? Thanks for taking a look. USG

I built a fleet of these Shuttles a few years ago with 3.4 Northwoods... One fan, runs around 38C with music.... but I'm interested in a netbook now. Can't see a reason to go this big any more.

I doesn't seem to make a difference what bit rate. You can readily hear the difference on internet radio as well. Another thing I'm not sure about is if USB sounds thinner than optical. My general impression is that USB on the Stello sounds a little cleaner than optical, using DS:USB Audio DAC or ASIO4ALL. Shuttle computer > optical and USB > Stello DA100 > GS-1 > 650s and 880s. USG

I'm sorry to say this has not been my experience with the standard DA100. The bypassed mode has more bass, more depth and more air either optically or USB. Up-sampling decreases the bass, and brings the vocals and mids forward flattening out the sound stage and decreasing the depth. IIRC there is a thread about this over at the Fi. Maybe it's just me, but I will be bringing this set up to the NY meet at the end of the month so anyone who wants to check it out for themselves, can. USG

I've been thing about doing the same thing for an alternate set up with an M^3, to replace a bulky 17"HP laptop. Is there any down side to using a mini PC ? USG

Hi bx What do you actually mean by saying you've heard a few great Betas? Does that mean you've heard some bad ones and some mediocre ones? Have you heard the Luxman, and/or what have you heard about the Luxman? USG

650s and 880s.... and very infrequently 701s USG

I've heard a few Zana's at the meets but the only Beta I heard was Nate's first one......... and meet conditions are, far from optimal, so what do you guys think? Thanks USG
