  1. It is hard to see tonight's result as anything other than a major setback for the state of soccer in the US.
  2. Nice job, US Men’s team.
  3. The great wager... open all the windows and air the place out or keep the hatches battened down another night? Seriously... the air has just been disgusting. I've got a big headache and I'm sure its from breathing this crap.
  4. Do you have a source for this, Andrew? I've heard only Signorello has had serious damage so far and that the others are just "threatened." http://www.winespectator.com/webfeature/show/id/Massive-Wildfires-Devastate-Parts-of-Napa-and-Sonoma+County
  5. Wow, crazy pictures, @Grahame!
  6. Same thing here, woke up way too early thinking my apartment was on fire and I had left the stove on. Most homes out here don't have AC, so I have my windows open when I sleep. When the sun came up I could see my living room is covered in ash. Pretty crazy.
  7. Well said, Wayne. RIP.
  8. We’ve got a bit of a discussion on it in the Yggdrasil thread. I think there is a difference, but I’d really like to do a blind test with a gen 2-3 and a gen 5 to really test myself on whether the difference is meaningful. Still, it can’t hurt to do the upgrade.
  9. I don’t get it?
  10. +1 for the Oppo DACs. I use Oppo's ios app on my phone/tablet to control the 105 I have and it is fantastic at streaming from Tidal and/or my networked drive. I'm actually thinking of pitching all my physical CDs when I move. All they do right now is collect dust.
  11. What in the hell is going on with this one? No one seems to know. EDIT: RIP TP
  12. It was annoying, but do-able.
  13. Sad day. He will be missed. ?
  14. Agreed, quite the shitty last 24-hours.
  15. Did the gen 5 upgrade to my Gumby this morning. It took about 30 minutes, start-to-finish. I'll leave it to others to describe any change in sonics, but I figure it can't hurt the eventual re-sale value. EDIT: If anyone wants the prior gen USB board to play around with, PM me and its yours for the price of shipping.

  17. Defender of the universe and a gentleman. What a guy!
  18. I finished the final episode last night. Wow, that was some powerful stuff. The discussion of the Vietnam Memorial in particular is as emotional as anything I've seen on TV in quite a while. Have the tissue-box ready. Bravo to Ken Burns and Lynn Novick. Really outstanding work. I especially enjoyed how personal the interviews were, particularly the interviews with the Vietnamese. A lot of the most poignant moments of the documentary are theirs, and the documentary is so much richer with their participation that it would have been without it. The other real standout for me is seeing the color video that accompanied the most iconic photographs of the war. It is often as shocking and unsettling to see the video for the first time as it was to see the photos in the first place. My parents, who were both born in 1955 and were old enough to remember but young enough to have not gone/protested tell me the documentary has been quite hard for them to watch.
  19. Reznor and Ross' soundtrack to "The Vietnam War." It reminds me a lot of Ghosts I-IV, which feels appropriate given the subject matter.
  20. Happy Birthday, IB!
  21. Merry Christmas Happy Birthday, Santa-man!

The Naaman 1st Annual Memorial Race: F-150 Raptors, in the rain, on the Horse Thief! Followed by something more civilized!
  23. Tried their new one but went back to this.
  24. I'm caught up now through episode 6 which aired last night and covered the Tet Offensive and the first half of 1968. Boy, it took a few episodes but the series has really grabbed me. I went to bed last night feeling ashamed to be an American. 1968 really was a terrible year. The futility and waste of everything that had happened up to that point coupled with the realization that the war still has another FIVE YEARS left to run is pretty crushing. I feel terrible for the suffering of the people of South Vietnam.
