  1. With my upload speed it would probably take 2 years to do one backup. In any case... either I did the backup in the nick of time, or all the load from doing the backup pushed it over the edge, but the DC-DC PSU in my music server just went tits up. The thing's full of cheap CapXon pieces of shit, nearly all of which have vented. Tomorrow I'll recap it (if I have suitable replacements), and hopefully the worst will be a quick journal replay on bootup. ARGH.
  2. Backed up my music server for the first time in a while... ran out of space on the external drive in the middle of copying the LAST ALBUM.
  3. Given how much everybody loves to take internal pics of equipment, how dumb do you have to be to not even try to make it look like you changed anything?
  4. Plus look at his username: CherryBomb ... Conan O'Brien.
  5. Slept all day, still feel like shit.
  6. Been feeling too awful to do much else, so today I managed to completely clear out my backlog of CDs to be ripped to the computer, for the first time in ever. Now to do something about the hundred or so CDs still in shrinkwrap...

I didn't know there were going to be daytime activities too. Neat.
  8. MEncoder is like the swiss army knife of video format conversion... mencoder(.exe) "/path/to/video.mkv" -oac copy -ovc copy -o "/path/to/video.avi" And if you need to change what codec is used for the audio or video, just change "copy" to the name of the codec (oac for audio, ovc for video).
  9. I haven't seen the cable in question, but if it's RG59 then it certainly is shielded.
  10. Yeah pretty much. Just tested it with my Squeezebox... if I turn the volume down (digitally) while playing a HDCD rip, it'll cause the DAC to stop recognizing it as a HDCD.
  11. Even when years out of calibration any half-decent meter will still be way more than close enough for this kind of stuff. I'd sooner get a meter with higher precision than calibrating a regular DMM... precision > accuracy for audio DIY, IMO.

Oh my. Where do I order one?
  13. I recommend beating it into submission.
  14. I'd say it's even better than 6N.
  15. And will probably still suck tomorrow.

I figured out how to open the cover on VHS tapes and drew on the tape so I could see it on the TV. It didn't work.

Let's have a show of hands... who here isn't guilty of doing this as a child?

Yes, the speakers will fill the room with plenty of physical volume.
  20. I've got small quantities of those kinds of wire in my supplies, nice for use as shielded hookup wire but too stiff for my tastes when used as an interconnect. If there's enough interest though I'd gladly hunt down a few spools and make some ugly cables like that to sell cheaper than my braided & sleeved cables, since it'd cost significantly less in time and materials to make.

Putting them right up against the wall is wrong on so many levels it should be a criminal offense.
