  1. And on the love for Hunahpu's, this may be the most beautiful image I've seen in a long time. Here's hoping that makes it to bottles as a special release.
  2. Add to the list of russian imperials, Cigar City's Hunaphu's (as in run straight there and get yours before it's gone). I've only had one small glass of that stuff, and right now I'm hating on the brewer for electing to take a batch of it out to Denver, of all places. My personal opinion is that the brewery should stop making its' more pedestrian beers for widespread consumption, and focus solely on this beer and just a few others.
  3. I strongly disagree with the mexican and yelled at him loudly when he dared to insult the Britt's donut I so gladly paid for after taking Dinny to the airport. I have eaten many a Krispy Kreme doughnut in my life, and the problem is that they are indeed not very krispy. I have also had my grandmother's homemade doughnut, which was much more similar in texture to the Britt's variety. The wonderful crunchy parts mixed with the only slightly chewy bits all pointed to the perfect handmade doughnut that a corporate chain could never make a profit from. Brent also sought chocolate covered doughnuts with sprinkles, to which I say: Grow up retard. The Britt's doughnut was my best memory of Kure Beach NC, and you should all know by now that I'm a very sentimental person.
  4. You're a funny mofo sometimes. Why doesn't this Wayne show up on my couch more often. Instead I get the Wayne who drones on about trailer repairs.
  5. We're here, we're moderately sober, and there's gear being set up. Seems like time for an impressions thread. Duggeh's pictures will tell the story far more accurately than I can, so I'll get out of the way.
  6. My friend really did have the misconception that the bassist would have to play lefty, apparently from a tv ad.
  7. It's an option, like all the other games. There's an achievement for getting over 50% of the notes on Expert with lefty bass. The Hofner replica controller doesn't even have a flipped whammy or controls for lefties.
  8. I will officially say that this game is awesome, although I'm not officially playing it yet. That's my story anyway.
  9. Finally getting a day to celebrate this birthday. Just dumped $160 into great beer (18 bottles), and I'm going to go make a dent in them right now. First up: Des Geants Goliath (actually from my last big beer purchase 2 weeks ago). Next, probably one of the Hoppin Frog brews that just landed in Florida. And I'm seeing Inglorious Basterds at 6:10.
  10. Don't fracking schedule it in March, otherwise I may have to whine at you. And you know how good I can whine.
  11. What I'm not invited in February? Screw you hippie, now I have to make the trip just out of spite. Thanks all. I rang in my birthday working at my company's new warehouse all night, got home at 6 AM. Going back to work at 6 PM to do it all over again. Wash, rinse, repeat, for however long this move takes. I did get a good lunch and a thoroughly awesome slice of peanut butter pie at my friend's restaraunt, so it's not all bad.

    Mad Men

I watched Revolutionary Road last night. What a sad ripoff of Mad Men. I will say that in the scene where he's getting dressed after his first extramarital encounter, and the girl's sitting there with the sheet over her boobs like in every such scene, and I always wonder why they're doing that, because the dude just saw everything anyway and now what's the deal? Yeah in that scene she holds the sheet up for about 5 seconds and then completely drops it (doesn't look like an accident in any way), then looks embarassed and picks it back up. WTF was that!?!?!?! I'll forever be flabbergasted by that particular turn of events. Filmmaker really wants a set of tits in the movie so he gets them but then goes right back to the same tired "girl protecting her modesty from the guy who she just slept with" gag.
  13. Nice final post there Mike. How do these people not know that we are the meet-masters? On that note, I think we need a party in Tampa sometime in the Fall. I'm not all that interested in doing a meet (we've talked about this before), but anything is possible. Now that everyone's ditching the home rigs for JH13's a meet could get pretty sad anyway. If we did do a meet I probably wouldn't use that tiny room in Ybor again. It worked but barely. Actually as far as the partying we need to spend a night at Mr Dunderbak's and Skipper's, so we could put the meet up on the north side of town around USF. Hotels are way cheaper up there.

The other reason is that he's done several science type documentaries for the BBC, so this was just a one-off special in the same vein. His Big Ideas series is worth a quick search.
  15. I like it. Too bad they've stopped doing the first night of their American tours in Tampa. Saw them twice under such circumstances (hard to believe now that the first one was 6 years ago), and it stems from the fact that John Wesley (their tour guitarist) is from Tampa. Now they do the standard handful of big cities nowhere near the south.
  16. So I've been researching a problem I've had for a while now. Mostly since I switched to the Denon DL-110 cartridge I've been encountering groove echo. It hits between tracks, or during quiet parts, and I'll hear a faint echo just before the sound hits (one revolution before, to be exact). It also tends to be a faint echo on the right side, even if the actual music is shifted more to the left. I have never heard a post-echo but can assume that they are present but being masked by the music. My copy of Keith Jarrett's Koln Concert is especially annoying, since there are so many pauses followed by a quick stab of piano. I've also heard it strongly before The Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want", which of course starts with a choir. As such it seems to mostly happen with large amounts of upper midrange material, or at least it's most audible in those situations. After much re-checking I'm quite sure that my table is set up correctly. Amusingly, the Denon cart seems to have been designed for easy alignment on the Denon table. It goes smack out to the end of the available adjustment slots. The tracking force is recommended at 1.5-2.1 grams, and I've tried both ends of the spectrum without much change. I then went with the median adjustment of 1.8. Does this all come down to my cartridge? I love the Denon but can accept a change if need be. Any recommendations are appreciated, but I'd like to keep it under $300.

E4 would have been much better if they had all gotten in the car for the postal race. 4 door Porsche, so it makes sense, and I don't think they've ever done a trip like that before.
  18. I left my Nokia N810 at LAX when I left from Canjam. Just got another used one off Ebay yesterday.
  19. Good choice. Most gear can sound pretty when you play some Diana Krall on it. I usually go for something loud and crunchy, because if the new gear cowers in the corner when you push it, it's not for me.

And Jeremy's eco-solution made me LOL.
  21. I've shaved my head a few times but couldn't do anything to prevent really evil and painful razor bumps. I'm sticking with the #1 clipper cut just for convenience and a bit of sun protection. My recent purchase: Finally got around to ordering a record vacuum. Of course I went with the cheapest option, a Nitty Gritty Record Doctor III from Audio Advisor. It doesn't turn the record or spray the fluid for me but I'm fine with that. At $300 I think it's still massively overpriced for a tiny vacuum. My friend who's a genius with mechanical stuff may tear it apart and decide to manufacture something that can undercut the market by quite a bit. Doesn't mean he'll ever actually get the manufacturing part done, but the decision can be made quite easily.
  22. I'm in a fresh new King Crimson phase while going through the job of ripping all my CD's. I have a lot of KC live stuff, official and not-so.
  23. All bitching aside, who's actually going? I have days off and no plans, so I'll be there if the group's right.
  24. I'm not sure Mike will appreciate that cake but holy crap it's awesome. Happy Bday tireiron.
