  1. sweet, so sounds like you're going to go with this setup for a while, huh?
  2. I've heard the same, as I'm getting closer to deciding how the MPX3 will work into a current buffer (F4) for driving speakers. If it doesn't work, I will grab the controller as well and start looking for a preamp project. I talked to Russ about 2-3 weeks ago about it, for what that's worth.
  3. Xicon resistors would work fine here (700 VDC if I recall), or even better are Mini-Mox resistors as they have a very high HV rating. Both are available at Mouser.
  4. I've always modeled amps in SPICE using a single 200pF capacitor as load and disregarded any resistive elements. I'm not sure if this is the best way to do things, but it seems to give believable results.
  5. visiting some friends and attending a wedding.... and all the fun and games that go along with those two activities.
  6. a custom knob for a certain amplifier. I'll post pics when it get it, but it's pretty basic. Most importantly, it fits a 1/8" shaft. I got it from a local place, which is cool: http://www.armadilloguitar.com/ if anyone ever need custom knobs, give them a call. I think I paid around $18 for a solid stainless steel knob that's around 1" thick and 1.5" in diameter.... with position indicator and set screw. that being said, I now have a spare vt4c knob for sale.
  7. I think I'm in NYC...
  8. blasphemy! never build your house on solid-state.. you need a nice tube buffer
  9. yeah, so instead let's use opamps! yeah!
  10. a bit hungover and in NYC... that's it so far
  11. yes, definitely worth it!
  12. DL-102 is a good choice, but you run into problems with having to stack the headshell leads and often times this can be a problem with various headshells. This is because the DL-102 only has 2 pins. Another good option is the lower-end Benz Ace, which comes in a mono version or some of the entry Lyra carts. You can get into the whole "true-mono" versus "mono-strapped stereo" discussion as well. Worse-case scenario, you have to hack up the headshell, not something I'd like to do to an Ikeda / FR headshell. I do think that ZYX makes an after-market headshell that will fit though... not cheap though. As for phonostage, this can also be hard because you may be dealing with various RIAA curves as nothing was standardized at this time. Decca, CBS, etc. had their own house curves. Just more food for thought.
  13. I think a volume-matched DBT between single ended m3 and balanced b22 would be interesting
  14. is there a way to send links to full-size gallery images, or disable the flash viewer?
  15. For some reason when I embed a gallary image I cannot get the flash-based imaged viewer to load the image when I click on it. Can others view my images, such as this one: [img width=150 height=112 alt=P1010269]http://www.head-case.org/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=2437&g2_serialNumber=2
  16. thanks! I may be getting some giant polypropylene in oil caps to use not as cool as your teflon caps, but we have to start somewhere: [img width=150 height=113 alt=PICT0096]http://www.head-case.org/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=2831&g2_serialNumber=2&g2_GALLERYSID=245ffaedcdd434c3e031cadbc1e3669e
  17. wrong... trying again, the total capacitance seen by the circuit per rail will be as if the all capacitors for that rail are in series, thought there will not be the issues with the live cases if each of the 4 supplies has their own secondary and rectification.
  18. Kevin: with two supplies in series per rail (so 4 supplies), each with n smoothing capacitors each of size C, would the capacitance per rail seen by the circuit would be (C1+C2+...+Cn)/n?
  19. might as well get a cool OS while you're at it: http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/627
  20. isn't there a flywheel used to feed the battery when not breaking?
  21. I will probably always own a AWD car. Both Audi and Subaru have saved my life, so I have one of each
  22. soon enough: "TDI initiative on the North American market. As early as next year, Audi will be putting the cleanest diesel engine in the world into series production vehicles in the USA. The 3.0 TDI with ultra-low emission system will initially be available for the Audi Q7, and later for the new Audi A4."
  23. and you can save cash with diesels by filling them up while they're still running...
  24. oh-kay.
