  1. yes, definitely worth it!
  2. DL-102 is a good choice, but you run into problems with having to stack the headshell leads and often times this can be a problem with various headshells. This is because the DL-102 only has 2 pins. Another good option is the lower-end Benz Ace, which comes in a mono version or some of the entry Lyra carts. You can get into the whole "true-mono" versus "mono-strapped stereo" discussion as well. Worse-case scenario, you have to hack up the headshell, not something I'd like to do to an Ikeda / FR headshell. I do think that ZYX makes an after-market headshell that will fit though... not cheap though. As for phonostage, this can also be hard because you may be dealing with various RIAA curves as nothing was standardized at this time. Decca, CBS, etc. had their own house curves. Just more food for thought.
  3. I think a volume-matched DBT between single ended m3 and balanced b22 would be interesting
  4. is there a way to send links to full-size gallery images, or disable the flash viewer?
  5. For some reason when I embed a gallary image I cannot get the flash-based imaged viewer to load the image when I click on it. Can others view my images, such as this one: [img width=150 height=112 alt=P1010269]http://www.head-case.org/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=2437&g2_serialNumber=2
  6. thanks! I may be getting some giant polypropylene in oil caps to use not as cool as your teflon caps, but we have to start somewhere: [img width=150 height=113 alt=PICT0096]http://www.head-case.org/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=2831&g2_serialNumber=2&g2_GALLERYSID=245ffaedcdd434c3e031cadbc1e3669e
  7. wrong... trying again, the total capacitance seen by the circuit per rail will be as if the all capacitors for that rail are in series, thought there will not be the issues with the live cases if each of the 4 supplies has their own secondary and rectification.
  8. Kevin: with two supplies in series per rail (so 4 supplies), each with n smoothing capacitors each of size C, would the capacitance per rail seen by the circuit would be (C1+C2+...+Cn)/n?
  9. might as well get a cool OS while you're at it: http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/627
  10. isn't there a flywheel used to feed the battery when not breaking?
  11. I will probably always own a AWD car. Both Audi and Subaru have saved my life, so I have one of each
  12. soon enough: "TDI initiative on the North American market. As early as next year, Audi will be putting the cleanest diesel engine in the world into series production vehicles in the USA. The 3.0 TDI with ultra-low emission system will initially be available for the Audi Q7, and later for the new Audi A4."
  13. and you can save cash with diesels by filling them up while they're still running...
  14. oh-kay.
  15. tkam: I'd at least try a properly implemented NOS DAC with this combination. TDA1543, TDA1541, TDA1545, TDA1547 etc. I have the exact same combo (KGSS + SR-007) as you do and prefer these DACs in this situation.
  16. Audio Zone DAC-1 Perhaps a certain other member might be able to free up some time to give it a proper review or either Museatex DAC yeah! I like "suggest what you own threads"!
  17. any pics or details about the Garrard?
  18. I thought canaries were the uber-sensitive birds.... (stupid computer science reference)
  19. I'd recommend steroids. Hopefully it will shrink his nads and possibly prevent him from reproducing... win-win for everyone involved.
  20. heh... would there be interest in a clone of the socket used on the Illusion? Cost would be pretty expensive, probably around $100 US. I would use the same type of pins and a teflon body. I don't have a good (cheap) source for the pins, so I'd have to buy another component that uses them and then repurpose the pin sockets, and this would be one reason the cost would go up. The other is a small number would be built, i.e. limited production. The teflon rod isn't as much as I figured it would be, but it still adds up. I'm thinking about going down that path myself regardless of interest, and perhaps once a prototype is done we can talk about it some more.
  21. This reminds me of my impressions as well. I don't think the two are all that dissimilar amps in terms of basic sound. It's been a bit, but I spend a good couple hours comparing to the Single Powers I had at the time and never ended up with the HA-2, so I guess that says something. Enjoy!
  22. definitely. Both of these combos in my opinion are source 100% dependent. You can really stack the cards in your favor of the HE60 with a nice oversampling, new-era source and you can really make the SR-007 KGSS combo shine with a older, non-oversampling source. I've heard both with my Nottingham and can say that I definitely prefer the SR-007 in this case, as the HE60 needs the artificial detail and top end shine that the OS players offer. SR-007, not so much, stick with a more fluid, analog sounding source and let the SR-007 work its detail retrieving magic in a non-obvious, non-show-off manner.
  23. yes, but they use white ink.
  24. yeah, like a 180 degree comparison.
  25. nah, he has a SR-007 like me.
