  1. any idea on availability date and suggested retail for the AKG K272?
  2. lol.. I bought a Blackberry Curve for my wife today... she's so busy and doesn't have time to check e-mail and uses me as her "on-star" service when trying to find things and look various things up on the Internet when she's out and about. we'll see if she likes it.. probably equivalent of getting your wife a bowling ball, but we'll see.
  3. why is "floor guy" in blue? probably some porno reference, huh...
  4. go for a swim with the nurse sharks while your at it.. lots of fun grabbing and holding on to 'em, letting them pull you along and what not I'll be heading to China for the end of the year and beginning of next year... first time taking the 2 babies on an over-seas flight... Do they make extra-strength Children's Dramamine?
  5. oh, perhaps we should upgrade to teflon cover, just in cause there happen to be any amps nearby that output several kilovolts... and an integrated always-on bias.... and, and, and...
  6. that's be sweet. Then I can upgrade up the Japanese cigarette smoke that's infiltrated my SR-007 to an Opus X smell.
  7. why? simple, you'll sell tons of these! Just market them as "hermetically sealed electrostatic headphone stands".
  8. I'm surprised the pads don't touch...I guess it depends on how much bend one puts in the arc, as I'd wager mine would touch on this stand. I wonder how effective an integrated plexiglass cover would be compared to the vinyl Stax covers... Something that latched or snapped shut with rubber weatherstripping. Looks great Steve!
  9. I'm planning on trying DIY resistors... Manganin, Copper, Silver... sky's the limit. I'll report back once I get the kids trained on winding this stuff. My plan is to calculate the length needed to achieve a certain resistor value plus some, fold wire in half, hand drill to twist (or get blackmail material on swt61 and farm it out to him), release tension, wind on former, shorten and dial in exact value, and voila a non-inductive resistor. I'm looking at 2 x 17 meters of wire to get 2 x 39R resistor "center tapped". yes, I'm serious.
  10. Justin/Kevin: I am using two 350VAC Plitron toroids at the moment. If you're referring to primary to secondary insulation, looks like I'm covered. According to the Plitron website: "Meets the test requirement of >4 kV for one minute. 60 Hz transformers, three layers minimum, >2.5 kV for one minute" So, what about stacking four toroids (and their respective psus) together to get +- 800v? So, is this level of insulation something that one can get from a EI-type transformer as well?
  11. heh, I have no idea.... hence the question. Also, what are the disadvantages for stacking supplies? series output impedance is one I can think of...
  12. So, I had a bit of fun last night and experimented with stacking a small (valued) cap with a large valued cap to get extra WVDC capacity from the two caps in series. Works like a champ and it looks that my little psu scales up quite nicely. Of course, now I see where the danger lies, in that the sleeve of one capacitor can be near lethal to touch. Also, unequal values seemed to work better than a pair of equal values, which kinda makes sense. So, I started thinking... Would just strapping a pair of HV supplies, say two 400v supplies to make a single 800v supply be a better approach (or four 400v supplies to make a +- 800v supply, etc.) This way I can use 500v caps and still have the flexibility of scaling up to higher psu voltages. Thoughts?
  13. unless you have 2 computers... we're talking true dual mono computer as source.
  14. I'd recommend no less than 8 bitheads... then you'd have a... nevermind
  15. you fail as a DIYer... how can you just look at 200uF film caps and Mundorf Silver and Oil caps? :) no rush or anything just curious more than anything...
  16. I have to say those look bitchin'. My Blue Hawaii will have heatsinks on the top like this and it's a great look. Technically, it's stupid and inferior but I think it looks great.
  17. so, how did those caps I sent work for you?
  18. again, I think I'd build the TubeLabSE if I were you. Good project support and interesting looking build... second choice would be Raven-style, and third would be the HV Akido.
  19. I got a boat load of the duallys. I'll trade for futures on a pair of T50 if you find anywhere. edit: to answer your question, 2sc3381/2sa1149 => 2sc2705/2sa1145 I got the singles too....

  21. I'm thinking triple crowns. They'd be even rarer.
  22. Chris, have a cool glass of the "direct interpolation using multiple NOS DACs" kool-aid, it's yummy!
