  2. Yeah, I imagine so. The environment does not sound conducive to omnis at all. I would pick a very directional speaker, and listen to them nearfield if possible, midfield if nothing else. Focal Utopia Be series? I suspect that room could handle the Alto, or perhaps the Diva, if you want to cut out a couple thou. Wait, you want to throw the architect at him? Oh! You want ideas to throw at the architect. Ethan Winer: ...on acoustics ...on building a better bass trap his forum [me=Dusty Chalk]is greener, though his text is red (and read, for that matter)[/me]
  3. Yeah, I guess when you say it like that -- that it's much less important in HDTV, especially if it's post- line-doubling -- ...I guess. I still wouldn't want it, myself, though. It's a lot easier for you to say, not having to look at them every day. Do you still think you'd feel that way if you owned it yourself? I tell you whut -- I'd be counting pixels, if it were me.
  4. Yeah, I drooled over the Bishops for a long time, until I found out they had quality control issues with them (which are supposedly fixed with the Chimeras, from the same source that I learned that from -- namely the company itself). So yeah, get them. FOTM Duevel Audio Jupiter loudspeakers? Equinox Audio Jupiter loudspeakers? Jupiter Audio Ganymede loudspeakers? Whut?
  5. Heaven...is a place...where nothing...ever happens...
  6. Oops, he did say dynamics. Open or closed? If you don't mind closed, I'd say go for the new totl Denon - D5000.
  7. Whatever the new Stax Omega 2/SR-007's are going to be. The old ones are some of the best sound I've ever heard, properly amped (Blue Hawaii/KGSS/ES-1).
  8. 10m x 10m? Slate? Glass? Concrete? Yeezh. Good luck with that. At least put some bass busters in the corners, but really, you need some wall-rugs and carpeting. I would go for something soft-ish, like a cloth-dome tweeter, such as those in the Spendor S3/5, or perhaps a Vandersteen/Vanderstene/however it's spelled. The 5A was picked by Robert Harley as the >US$2K speaker he would buy if he had to live with it, in the most recent issue of Absolute Sound. You might also want to look at Nearfield Acoustics' Pipedreams, they're supposed to reduce the effect of the room. ...and a dCS Scarlatti stack? I hate you.* *Not literally, it's just an expression of envy. PS What are Jupiters?
  9. Yeezh. (makes a mental note to stay the fuck away from these things)
  10. Welcome to the club.
  11. This is meaningless to us, give us something we can use.
  12. Audio Technica L3000 or Denon D5000
  13. Are you serious? That sucks. With the amount of money spent on those things, you'd think they'd be able to get it right. Isn't it just a memory location in the controller? Or is it the LCD itself?
  14. Sounds broken -- take it in to get it fixed.
  15. And then you'll actually, like, tell us stuff?
  16. That's even better.
  17. No, but three rights make a left. Maybe that's what you're thinking of?
  18. Electrostatic panels are much harder to make than drivers. Most importantly, they are very easy to get wrong. You basically need to have a consistent distance between the two stators, and the larger you make the panel, the harder that is. And you need large panels to get any bass at all. You should read the recent interview with the Martin Logan guy for a very honest appraisal -- from, amongst other perspectives, a business point-of-view -- of the process. spritzer -- you heard Final? I only ask because you didn't mention them. I've heard really good things about Final, except that, like the Quads, they beam. Of course, I've heard similarly good things said about Innersound. I'm actually a big fan of Martin Logan, and am seriously considering getting a pair. We'll see, it's not going to happen any time soon.
  19. Wow. You got it? Give it some burn-in.
  20. Last night -- 3 bottles of various vintages of Vouvray and 1 of a Chenin Blanc Today -- some Pantene shampoos and conditioners, a bag of Fiery Jalapeno Doritos, and a bottle of wild cherry Pepsi
  21. He's contributing to the entropy. Again.
  22. Yeah, except they're called the ESL-988, ESL-989 and the ESL-2805, ESL-2905.
  23. Gee, way to insult the rest of us.
  24. Kentucky Fried Movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf2p964uHDs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnBlknT2DA0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0f-k2VVJ6Q and the very NSFW, Catholic High School Girls in Trouble That's what I meant when I euphemistically said, 'uterus'. And considering she's going all the way in, and probably going to come out kicking and screaming, not entirely inappropriate, neither.
