  1. Dani Joss, Liquid Photography -- one of my favourite albums of electronic music evar. Dark, sparse, ambient as all, atmospheric as dark matter. I don't even know how to categorize it -- ambient experimental?
  2. Thank you again, everyone, and to those that enjoyed a beer or other alcoholic beverage that I could not, I thank you for drinking on my behalf! I did enjoy them vicariously. XD (I finished that bottle of Les Garrigues that I started a couple days ago.)
  3. Yeah, well, I know it looks high tech and technical and cold, but one of the reasons I love it so much is that it has a very organic, almost electro-acoustic sound to it, even when just using the straight humbucker pickups. So I would argue that it "lends itself to a particular style of playing". It's certainly a very "fast" neck, and would fit well with those types of players, but I think you'd be surprised at how old-timey guitar it can sound, so would fit with other styles as well.
  4. Sense8 -- this is a very weird show. I am totally enjoying it. I am especially enjoying the comediic bits. And right in the first episode, a musical number! Very Bollywood. (Not the whole show, just the straight out of nowhere musical number.)
  5. I'm not sure what that style is. The sigs were Adrian Belew and Vernon Reid. A coworker of mine who also happens to play a Fly plays jazz. I play weird instrumental covers of stuff. That's about the entirety of my data set. As that same co-worker said, there are no bad Parker guitar players. (Admittedly, he hadn't heard me play. But I know what he means -- there's something about the guitar that makes me want to play better.)
  6. Ken Parker, and his guitar, the Fly (still my favourite), poster child for underappreciated, innovative guitar: https://reverb.com/news/the-difficulties-of-innovating-guitar-makers-and-the-burden-of-nostalgia?post_id=10211193383169904_10211193399610315#
  7. Thanks, everyone!
  8. Where did you find this? Filed under "RIYL Faith No More"? This is epically good. And this video is Tarntino-esquely sick:
  9. Went to church for the first time since my mom passed away, did not smolder. I went to show support for a friend at her father's memorial service, but the service started as soon as I got there, and as time progressed, my resolve faltered. So by the end of the service, I just gave her a hug and a kiss (we're a very kissy and huggy lot, this particular circle of my childhood friends, so don't misinterpret that -- it was welcome) of comfort and support, and passed on the condolences of my sisters. (le sigh) I suck at church.
  10. I know how both you and they feel.
  11. If you don't see me posting for a while...

What? No, not even maybe. Maybe compared to Luke Cage, but pretty much no other show I can think of (certainly not Dollhouse). And it was during (one of?) the conversation(s?) between Bernard and Ford where there was an automaton playing piano in the background (I the fact that they use largely pianos, and a variety of them, even during the opening credits) that I'm not recognizing the song. (wanders off, returns) Ooh, ooh, I was right, it was Debussy: Nice, another callback to "reveries".
  13. Happy birthday, Peter!! (party favour noise)

Lollers...yes, yes I did. There's a lot of dialog over it, but I'll see if I can't give Shazam or SoundHound a go. And yes, I do like the way they're propelling the story without rushing things. Continues to remind of Battlestar Galactica.
  17. I went from getting a cheap unknown $30 chorus to this crazy thing. Just arrived.

I got the Joplin, and recognize but can't name the one at 37:33. Debussy? Sartre? Also, someone pointed out that all three songs in the first episode had something to do with 'black' -- Paint It, Black, Black Hole Sun, and the song in the end credits was by the man in black (johnny Cash).
  19. tweed No, seriously, you all are putting way too much thought into this, they'd all look fine in a large enough swath. I'd base it on what it does to the sound. Are they all the same thickness/weight/density-of-weave/etc.? I'd use the thinnest, most inert, least "muffling" material. Synthetic over organic materials. I was actually going to regrill my old pioneers with lace at one point.
  20. a well-timed article written for me (It cracks me up that they use Aubrey Plaza as the poster child...
  21. Finished it; that was fucking fantastic. And Sharon Jones! And the chemistry between Luke and .
  22. It's far and away their most under-rated. Everyone knows Brothers in Arms and Sultans of Swing, but this is just superb.
