I buy vinyl! I should set up my vinyl rig, though.
-
Also, less flipping.

All I can tell you is, the best sound I've ever heard was out of a BHSE -- if it was coloured, I didn't hear it.
-
I might need to get those SRV ones, too. And the Foreignor and Doobie Brothers! Dusty want high-res yacht rock. (cries) So much want, so little monies. Well, plenty of monies, but even yet still more want.

You mean, no phones looked like that until they started putting touchscreens on them. Touchscreen -- most common shape is rectangular. EDIT: alright, maybe not. It still strikes me as much as Yamaha's patent on FM synthesis.

Unstable black hole is created and China becomes Ch'a?

Are you serious? THEY HAVE A PATENT ON THE ROUNDED RECTANGLE SHAPE that any sane smartphone-with-a-touchscreen developer would adopt so it would go smoothly into one's pocket? !?!? For fuck's sake... Sent from mah phone-blet via Tapatalk

Thanks, Jack! Me: Airbag on Spotify -- really decent prog, I've been getting a lot of good recommendations from the Facebook Big Big Train group, IQ, Pendragon, and now Airbag.

Whoa, when did that get released on MFSL SACD? Must purchase immediately. Any others I need to know about?
-
No, the part about it being a touch screen and "smart-phone/iTouch-sized", yes, but ... I'm a software engineer, so I'm talking about the GUI -- it doesn't even look remotely similar (no sarcasm). EDIT: admittedly, from the one pic, haven't watched "the video" or anything. What Al does fascinates me, especially from the IP perspective.

Am I missing something? Those don't even look remotely similar.

Now what is Lydia Lunch going to masturbate to? I has a sad.

Bitten. Oh god damn this is good. Episode 10 just brings it. Get at least as far as episode 7. Do me a favor, y'all -- even if you find it's not your thing, let your Netflix play overnight with the sound down or something. They're still teasing us with whether or not they're renewing for season 2, and I have a feeling the more views of the entire season on Netflix, the better. The storyline in book 2 -- which will probably translate to season 2 -- will bring it up not just a notch, but by a whole order of magnitude, if they do it right. Also, there's lots of sex and nudity for those of you who are into that sort of thing. Mostly Greyston Holt, but some Laura Vandervoort (as well as others).

Studio monitor audition went poorly, suggestions?

For the same exact position, I could see your point, but wouldn't it also be a function of where you place the sub? And wouldn't you therefore place them in different places? I will of course defer until I know more, it just doesn't sit with me, intuitively. dw, in answer to your very legitimate question -- directionality is basically a function of the distance between your ears, as the brain calculates it based on both amplitude and phase, and is not something you can actually measure with one mic, for example. And it doesn't just magically drop off when it hits a frequency, it just very quickly drops off once it starts getting around that frequency, since sine waves don't usually occur in nature, and the brain will use everything it has to try to calculate the direction of a sound. It will also combine sight with an internal physical modelling engine to compensate for the physics of the room/cathedral/open space/cave/cardboard box/anechoic chamber/what-have-you. If it has enough information in any one area, it'll use that (for example, you don't need that last one at all -- you can close your eyes and still be able to tell where a sound is coming from if it's very clear where it's coming from sonically). Look up standing waves. The physics of it are pretty typical physics (non-real-world, everything over simplified and over-generalized), whereas what dh is talking about is the real world application of physics, so kind of the next level beyond standard understanding of standing waves. No, sounds do not get caught behind objects, it's a by-product of the math. Sounds are localized variations in air pressure that move as waves in the audible frequency spectrum. They do not get stuck, they either transmit, transfer/absorb, or (eventually) dissipate. If they get stuck/stop moving, then they're not in the audible frequency spectrum. Chris, feel free to correct anything if I misspoke. -

I don't think you understand the physics of standing waves, man. They have to reflect -- at least once -- before it's a standing wave, so it's initial trajectory should have nothing to do with it. -

My point stands, it has nothing to do with the front ports. Did you find the problems went away when you switched to monitors with the same frequency response but rear ports or no ports (sealed or passive radiator)? I doubt it. The Quad 12L have front ports, but I've never had a problem with them, because they have no bass. Sent from mah phone-blet via Tapatalk -

Maybe that's just their way of avoiding detection -- don't they have a quota of babies over which they're not allowed to ...er...continue reproducing?

What? How do bass ports on the front have anything to do with standing waves in your room? You'll have standing waves based on the room, not on the speakers. Bass frequencies will "accumulate", no matter where they come from, if the problem room is prone to standing waves. Doesn't matter if the ports are on the front or on the back or if you don't have any at all. -
I thought you were trying to convey that God was shaking your snow-globe world. Also: yeezh, really? It's May.

And somehow I missed this post, too: Okay, understood, but don't mistake a subwoofer for "movie sound" -- if used in a musical context, it doesn't have to be bad -- I used a Sunfire True Sub Jr. with some nice Spendor bookshelves (Wharfedales will do in a pinch) without anyone ever being the wiser. Just don't turn it up -- movie sound usually means the sub is cranked up a notch, but I prefer it "even" with the speakers and phase-tuned. Don't think of it as a 2.1 system -- think of it as two 3-way speakers with the speakers sharing the woofer. I mean, think about it -- if the bass frequencies came from full-range speakers, or if they came from a sub, if they're the same level, your room-mates should be just as annoyed (or not annoyed, as the case may be), neh? That said, everything ironbut said about monitors being accurate vs. home stereo speakers being euphonic is generally true, so even though I disagree with how you came to that conclusion, I do agree you're probably better off buying home speakers for pleasurable listening. There's also "powered speakers" like the KEF X300A, which are designed for pleasurable listening rather than monitoring, although they may not go deep enough based on previous discussion. There's also the Quad 12L actives. On paper, those Dynaudios should be fine. I'm a big fan of Dynaudio.
