  1. Update So it makes sense that I love the middle disk the most, although all three have some great tracks. And this is insane, she has a 30 minute EP -- Scarlet Shoes -- which is largely neo-classical instrumental, and sounds nothing like the others. And the video from the single is crazy dark. She apparently does the art in the videos herself, too. Oh, and it sounds like a James Bond song burbling under the surface. Just a crazy great song.
  2. Happy Nathan Day, Birthman! (party favour noise)
  3. Cheerio, guvna, glad you're still hanging on in quiet desperation, as it were. (party favour noise)
  4. Yaya Kim, a.k.a Yaya Epic 3 volume, 140+ minute album Korean vocalist, variety of styles, mostly jazz/nuevo tango/alternative/crooner/??? RIYL: Sade, Joss Stone, Rhiannon Giddens, Sheena Ringo, et al I think the 2nd volume is my favourite, but I've been listening to it piecemeal, so haven't fully digested the 3rd yet.
  5. Fat/Taco Tuesday, so I had a fat taco -- Diablo Burrito 😈
  6. Glad you survived, Knucks. Sorry it was so traumatizing.
  7. Happy belated birthday, Naaman! (party favour noise)
  8. As much as he annoys me as a person, god DAMN did he write some great songs as a solo artist, as well as his contributions in Pink Floyd. Such a great song.
  9. Schizoid Lloyd, The Last Note in God's Magnum Opus Seems reminiscent of Mr. Bungle, not necessarily in terms of this song, but in the overall album flow.
  10. Oh, yeezh, don't let the oil go down -- it's a pain if it gets to that point below where the oil flows from the tank into the intake -- it's like a fuel filter -- once the sludge gets into the system, it's an order of magnitude worse. Please cut your fuel usage now before it hits that point and find other means of warmth. Wishing you a a warm front.
  11. Newegg's Shocking Incompetence
  12. Happy birthday, Al! 🥳 (party favour noise)
  13. Jamal Edwards 31 isn't just way too young it's fucked up.
  14. LOL at "the vaccine-hesitant"
  15. My friends on the Delightfully Depressing chat are all big fans of Future Islands. You should listen: You'll notice that the playlist is populated in groups of about an hour, weeks apart, so you should be able to figure out where to stop and start one show, if that makes sense. The beginning of that playlist is kinda dorked up, so scroll down until you get to playable tracks.
  16. Happy birthday, Colin! Miss you, buddy. (party favour noise)
  17. I've started to think I hear them timestretched and otherwise audio-manipulated... XD The next time I hear one, I'll make a note of it here, see if anyone else hears it, or if it's just my imagination.
  18. Sorry, I've been meaning to getting around to answering this question for a long time. Scott's Bass Lessons is the only one I know of, but I'm sure there are others. I can't speak to its quality because I never took bass lessons myself. Maybe ask around on TalkBass? I responded well to individual tutoring, because 1, it gave me weekly goals so motivated to practice, and 2, they could observe my form (and tell me if I was doing anything badly, or more specifically, would guide me not to do anything that would cause repetitive motion injuries, which is common among guitarists). I don't see any reason why one couldn't do that over Zoom or Discord or whatever, so that's what I'll be doing when I resume. There's also books. I like this one (but admittedly not everyone does).
  19. Happy birthday, Jeff! I miss you, former neighbor. Haven’t been to that brewpub that we used to go to that you liked the meatloaf that I’m too inebriated to remember the name of. (party favour noise)
  20. I had Bibimbap earlier. It was a bizarre mix of Americana and traditional Korean -- I love fusion, so I ended up very much enjoying. Two of the sides were a faux potato salad -- it was doctored with pickled radishes and sweet pickle relish -- and mashed potatoes -- also similarly doctored -- and several of the sides were the usual -- bean sprouts, green beans/string beans/whatever they're called, kimchi (surprisingly filling), and one was something new to me -- it was like a Thai cucumber/vinegar concoction, but with primarily black fungus, and it was fantastic. The bibimbap was delicious too, and I didn't spill a drop despite mixing it aggressively when it was first brought to my table (Dusty don't want no burned rice crusties). Super delicious.
