Can't you use your powers of insight to convince someone else to want to change the lightbulb or adjust the spot heater...?

Wait, what? He took out all of Trent Reznor's highly stylized production...er...thingies, he took out that little discordancy or dissonance or whatever you want to call it in the opening riff, he played it straight, but most importantly, he lent his voice to it. He made it a Johnny Cash song -- even people that had heard of Nine Inch Nails didn't realize it was a Nine Inch Nails song. Oh, and he took out that huge metal climax like a sucker punch and that insanely long trailing drone. I mean, just play the first couple seconds of both versions.

This one: From the interview with John Siau from Benchmark on the previous page, in which he claims it's impossible to filter out without destroying the purity of the signal (my paraphrase).

Obviously. They make little children cry. I suspect the clamping pressure. "...wearing these is like having your head run over..."

Yeah, that's probably what's going to replace (in my mind) the Mac mini that I've been meaning to get since 2007. On the other hand, the iMac's now have 1080p and 1440p screens, so I might just go iMac.

DSD can be converted to analog directly, without a DAC. That's probably what he's doing. And according to the graph, there's plenty of room between the signal proper and the ultrasonic noise to filter it out. I'd be interested in hearing the result. The hard part is actually filtering out the DSD signal alone, without the metadata surrounding it as would probably exist in any digital transfer protocol, especially right off the disk or out of the file, and making sure it's decrypted, although there's probably a point where one can tap the signal somewhere along the chain. I bet it's right there at the DAC, though, lollers.

What? This is the first I heard of this. I thought they had desktop CPU's...(wanders off to confirm)...oh my, you're right. Well that's disappointing.

Cash's version of Hurt totally redefined it and made it his own in a way that the original will never be, but I'm also a huge Nine Inch Nails fanboy, and always loved the song and the way it concluded the intense The Downward Spiral, so I'm glad I live in a world where I don't have to choose one at the expense of the other. Other than at the same time.

link Disappointed in the lack of 1x, but I have to admit, I like the price point. It's within what I can recommend to muggles, I would just like to know if it's any good, first.

Also, why is this in headphone amplification?

When taking a break from what I'm doing, I'll be listening to Alpinestars' "White Noise" -- too bad they never followed that up, methinks. RIYL Zoot Woman, et al.

I've been using WhoSampled lately. By the way, Dan, that link leads directly to Venetian Snares' dubstep cover (cover? remix? those are Ozzy's vocals) of "Black Sabbath", which is almost exactly what I heard in my head when we talked about me doing a dubstep remix of "Iron Man", rendering that thought moot. I only wish he had done "Iron Man".

Proving myself prescient yet again, it appears the Light Designs Da Vinci can play DXD files as per the Google syndication ad, but not per the product page proper. WTF? Alright, maybe not so prescient, but honestly, I missed this post before. PS Emphasis mine.

Oh, and how the fuck can we leave Tori out of this. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is what caught my attention of her, but her cover of Slayer is just plain epiphanical: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCpOAXIgF9U

Oh, and congrats on the non-fever. Jesus, you had us worried. Hope there isn't any permanent brain damage. Not that we'd be able to tell.

In my experience, unless the parents are entirely retarded, they won't disown you. Julie is yours, don't let the parents interfere with that relationship. This is one instance where you can have your cake (relationship with Julie) and eat it too (remain blood-related to your parents).

Totally "+1" on the Eva Cassidy and Cowboy Junkies covers. Even though that's not even the only cover on Trinity Session, it's an obvious standout and veritable centerpiece of the album (even though it's not in the center of the album, that's not what I mean). But sorry, neither one of them "make it their own" the way Jimi makes "All Along the Watchtower" his own -- it stopped being a Dylan tune when he did it. I also really adore weird covers. Devo's "Satisfaction" comes to mind, as does Oingo Boingo's "You Really Got Me" (left as an exercise for the reader to look them up and hear them). I also really like Type O Negative's (RIP, Peter Steele) approach to covers. Their "Paranoid" and "Summer Breeze" come to mind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxzGbyjnAl4 I also really like the Dickies and Me First & The Gimme Gimmes punkish approach to covers. I mean, for Pete's sake, Stan Lee played the entire orchestral break of "Nights in White Satin" as a guitar solo! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oI0d-kOxb4A But one of my favourites is the Temptations cover of Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine". They turn it into this extended 7 minute epic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfMHtkKN1Ss

Actually, if you read the description, he wasn't drunk. I think. The English is not strong with that one.

"Well I'll be damned, here comes your ghost again... but that's not unusual, it's just that the moon is full, and you've decided to call..." Such a great song, you can be Judas fucking Priest and play it as a straight metal song, and it'd be fucking awesome. Well, that and Green Manalishi.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yO7mNNkkOA My first Amanda Palmer cover, but mostly because of his drumming. When I saw them play it, he was spot on for every single hit. I mean, it could have been a tape, it was that accurate. It actually woke me up to the fact that it's such a drummer's song.
