  1. Put horns on your JH16's.
  2. Nice review, did read. "...reminiscent of the k1k...", huh? That's fairly high praise. Sent from mah Droid
  3. Friendly fires, followed by the new !!!, because that's the kind of mood I'm in. Sent from mah Droid
  4. It would also go well on your upper torso. :rimshot:
  5. If it's obvious, then why is your answer in the form of a question? Also: LOL @ "perfect understatement"
  6. A-ha! I think I've sussed it. I'm listening to Void of Silence, Grave of Civilization, and I've said before it reminded me of something, but what I hadn't figured out is that it's only partly reminded me of something -- Skinny Puppy. The vocalist reminds me of Ogre. (sigh of relief) And maybe a little bit of the abstract song structure.
  7. Cynic, Re-Traced -- s'awesome.
  8. So Daddy's Little Princess goes off to college. A couple weeks into the semester, she writes for money to buy a bicycle to get around campus. He sends her the money, but by the time she gets it, she's already in shape, and no longer needs the bicycle...and has since fallen for a monkey at the local pet store, so she buys that instead. A couple weeks later, the monkey falls ill, becomes lethargic, and starts molting. Not knowing what to do, she panics and writes her dad, "The hair is falling off my monkey!" He writes back, simply, "Sell the bike".
  9. Anthony Rother, Popkiller -- electro-nectar
  10. I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
  11. Amongst other things, met Shelly for a bit -- that was nice.
  12. Now you tell me.
  13. I'd be lying if I said that the album cover had nothing to do with my giving that album a listen.
  14. Beep boop.
  15. Um...it's actually not so new anymore, not by Steven "Mr. Prolific puts out 5 albums in a bad year" Wilson standards. Here's the setlist:
  16. Cynthia Witthoft, The Mortal Fishzilla -- this is really rocking my world right now -- instrumental progressive/power metal. Probably a little too wanky for those of you who are sensitive to wankiness, but to those of us who enjoy a good show-off, this is fairly sweet. Just to give you an idea of the kind of music it is, Dio gives a spoken-word intro (as in, "this is Ronnie James Dio from the band...Dio", in the same tone of voice as "and I approve of this message"). And she apparently has quite the discography.
  17. Porcupine Tree -- was wonderful. They didn't play The Incident straight, they played it broken up over the course of the night. Except for "The Yellow Windows Of The Evening Train", and that whole "Circle of Manias" section (yeah, I know, the best parts). But they started with "I Drive the Hearse" and went into ...uh, one of the songs with the video that had the same characters as the one in "The Yellow Windows of the Evening Train", so I thought they were going to play it "backwards" (by section, more or less), but alas...no. They started with a stripped down set, and played -- amongst other things -- "Futile" (which was weird [deliberately -- he introduced as "the least appropriate song to be played in this fashion"]). That was cool. Then they took a break and did the main set. Amongst other things, parts of my fantasy set list -- The Sky Moves Sideways Phase 1 (more or less) being the highlight for me. At about 10:40, he said, "we only have time for one more song, but it's a fucking long one", and then played the full version of "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here". Lots of space rocky period stuff, but lots of metal period stuff (they did play the middle section of "Anesthetize", at least, but not the full version, and no "Russia On Ice" intro, alas). And they played the full 15 minute version of "Even Less" from Recordings, which was pretty cream-worthy. So, all-in-all, a very special night, indeed, but not at all what one was led to expect. Which was fine by me -- I was one happy boy. I did not realistically expect my fantasy setlist, so by getting as much of it as I did, I was pleasantly surprised. And having heard The Incident 3 times live already, I was perfectly happy with the choices they made in that regard as well. Oh, and they fucked with the videos, too. Changed the colors and stuff, and added a whole bunch of psychedelic sections. I bet they burned the tapes for those, after that, so it was a one time thing.
  18. I would just like to remind the esteemed albeit insane Dr. Gilmore that I was, indeed, kidding. But thanks for taking the time to amuse us -- it's actually been very educational! (At least, for me.)
  19. Abercrombie-&-Fitch-ian hate, methinks.
  20. Nope, the pastrami did not fail to satisfy...me, that is. My friend was not so enamored, but then he isn't a pastrami nor corned beef fan, so it wasn't the best choice for him. That said, he loved the pickles, as did I. Very generous, crisp, and delicious. I am not distracted by all the negativity here, I still managed to enjoy it, and my memory is that I enjoyed it. And yeah, we basically established that there really isn't any good ramen around DC.
  21. Partly through Spellbound.
  22. Ironically, I did these things as well. Of course, in my case, "packing for DC" meant going shopping for beer that I can't get in the DC area.
