  1. Hurray! And: considering you paid for a new one, that's what you deserve. WRT fix vs. replace -- the idea being, if it was something simple, like the battery was in backwards. It wouldn't work then, right?
  2. from both "Sentimental" and "Normal", in entirely different contexts (Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson) He also reuses the line, "I do a good impression of myself" from "Anesthetize": And: Porcupine Tree again, "Fear of a Blank Planet"
  3. Do we actually know anyone in Amsterdam? I mean, we should at least pick a town that we know someone in. And, of course, they would need to volunteer.
  4. I can't 'Nenso'.
  5. You want an empty? I have a half-drunken bottle that's probably flat by now -- I should pour it out.
  6. I don't think Amsterdam was mentioned seriously. Berlin? Personally, I wouldn't mind London, but the chances of me showing are < 50%, so weight my input accordingly.
  7. I lied -- I didn't listen to shit today.

  9. I'm probably overstating things, but it's not the kind of first impression I want to make. And then again, I could be stating things quite plainly. I really should not have let it get so out of hand.
  10. Am cleaning my office. New CFO doing a walk-through next week. I'll probably be looking for a job the week after, as I am nowhere near completion.
  11. Hopefully it's something they can fix easily (broken adapter? broken port? broken touchscreen? bad battery?), rather than having you wait some more.
  12. (dreamy look crosses face) This. Me, too (as soon as I can track down a copy).
  13. I like 'em already. They give good web.
  14. Would it be possible to put the drive in an external enclosure, attach to a different computer, delete the appropriate executables, and then try cleaning it? Just thinking outside the box, might be useless suggestion. (In my case, I'd just boot to my linux partition, mount the windows partition, and work on it that way.)
  15. Porcupine Tree, Anesthetize
  16. [punctuation-pedant sarcasm]Why are you sorry you posted this over there as well?[/sarcasm]
  17. Moral of the story: always check the URL before clicking -- and that doesn't just go for head-case.
  18. Yeah, except the recommendation was for Jin, not for you, and since he's coming from the pop slant, I still think he might dig. Agreed that it is probably on the outermost edges of the genre, especially something like "Divided" (vs. "If I Fall", which I think falls well within the genre).
  19. Heavier? Moar expensive?
  20. Tara Maclean? Oh, and the king of crossover: Chris Isaak.
  21. Just had some Pho. Is it possible for a place to have negative atmosphere? Because if it is, this place did. White, undecorated walls; ancient 70's chairs; linoleum floors; and that 70's turquoise for the primary color. It kind of put me in mind of my high school cafeteria (not of good mind, mind you). That said, once I got over it, the food was quite delicious. Quite. And fast. And the service was spot on -- the water was waiting for me at my table, as if she knew I was going to sit there; she refilled my water exactly when I wanted her to, and otherwise left me alone to magazines, but with the feeling that if I needed her attention, she'd be right there -- it was practically psychic. I will definitely eat there again.
  22. Yeah, but which half? But Which Half?!?!? EDIT: That was actually in response to Vicki's post, not yours, but it's funny seeing it applied to yours. Neko Case and Gillian Welch are new Americana or alt.country, aren't they? Is that what interests you? The following suggestions are based entirely on that premise, because other than that, I have no interest knowledge myself in any of those other genres. I would definitely check out Allison Moorer. No Depression by Uncle Tupelo is considered a turning point. Early Wilco. Jim White is fun. The Devics are absolutely sublime.
  23. 'bout $300 in cat food and kitty litter (for three cats)
