  1. Finally finished Strong Girl Bong-soon. Pacing deteriorates significantly, the farther along one goes. Egad. Painful. Lost in Space season 2 — enjoying Zoo — giving this a second chance, on the urging of my sister. I’m really curious how they treat the good guy misanthrope character, Mitch. A couple good lines so far, “I’m an acquired taste”, “I like people, I just prefer when they’re not around.” Blade of the Immortal—yeah, they’re being extremely faithful. It’s pretty brutal, though. But ... ambitious. In its “cinematography”, sound design, atmosphere, art direction, as well as everything else. If you like anime and Kurosawa, you should probably give it a chance. But this is more adult than Card Captor Sakura, this is probably more in the vein of Korean R-rated films like I Saw the Devil and Mother.
  2. Yeah, that’s what I heard. Are you sure they practiced? Or did they master the fine art of appearing to practice, as many children do? ?
  3. The way it was explained to me was that he felt it was ordained... ... and what I meant was I didn’t know if it was genius or madness...
  4. I’m not sure what this is:
  5. Ended up throwing it out. Smelled nasty. A friend of mine figured out what probably happened -- the vinegar "predigested" the food for me. ? (insert Jeff Goldblum "The Fly" animated gif here) Went back to easy, still got it wrong, although it was edible this time. Made Thai red curry beef...but I don't think Thai red curry uses coconut milk, and I did, so I ended up making something more panang-y than red curry. It was still delicious.
  6. I think that was the last of the Carnival of Love/Enchanted Path echelon. All I’ve got left is that one Velvet Glove and a couple in the Blue Eyed Boy/Gigglepot echelon. It’s up to my sisters, I will put you in touch with them, they get everything.
  7. So, most of it turned into liquid upon cooking. I can smell some serious vinegar, and there’s barely a cup of cooked meat in all that liquid. I have no idea what to do with it. I think the vinegar attacked the fat, which is probably healthy, so I may try to separate the meat from the liquid, but that might invoke the wrath of the hive mind, so if you don’t hear from me again, assume that’s what happened. I’m going to go out and get some takeout. If it’s my last meal, I want it to be a good one.
  8. I have no idea. I tried marinating beef in coconut vinegar, and the two mutated into some as yet unknown third gelatinous substance. I will cook it to see what it tastes like, but I’m not really into sour meats, so it will probably get thrown out or become a special effect in a low budget horror movie.
  9. And they covered a Billie Eilish song, too! Although this one they played “straight” — which I think was appropriate:
  10. Yeah, goddammit, that was just what the show was like.
  11. Yes, very nice, thank you for sharing.
  12. Yeah, well, good luck with that (you’ll understand when you hear it). The order is now Astral Schism I/... oh shit, I forget already... Edit: order is now final: Oily Nuke Oath II/Astral Schism I/Astral Schism II/Rictus Lingering Uploads, on the other hand, are not, there will probably be one more.
  13. Cheers, Ric! (party favour noises)
  14. Thanks for your thoughts! Yes, exactly. The evolution of the sound was supposed to be at an almost subconscious level. I'm trying to decide on a playing order. I'm thinking Oily Nuke Oath II Astral Schism I Rictus Lingering Astral Schism II ...but I can't decide. EDIT: Now it's Astral Schism I/Oily Nuke Oath II/Astral Schism II/Rictus Lingering https://soundcloud.com/dusty-chalk/sets/eating-chinese-food
  15. I did a thing. Drone/experimental/damnbient. (There's a total of 4, Astral Schism II, Rictus Lingering, and Oily Nuke Oath II.)
  16. Yeah, that came out perfect. Everyone enjoyed it.
  17. Mixed vegetables goulash
  18. Happy birthday, Ken! (party favour noise)
  19. Blade of the Immortal on Amazon Prime. I read the manga way back when, and so far (1 episode in) it seems faithful to the original manga, down to the symbol on his robe, although smartly they play it down. All I remember was that it starts out with the typical young-woman-hires-gruff-thug premise, and then creates the greatest long-running story arc out of it (it actually ends!). What I forgot was how totally fucked up some things are. They don’t shy away from that, or the blood. The ultra-violence is tastefully and stylizedly rendered, just as I remember the manga doing. I will have to go back and revisit to see if that was faithful or not. But so far I am happy with the treatment. Not for children or the squeamish. Rape, carnage, things you can’t unsee, etc. But the story makes it worth it.
  20. I want to hates it because it’s Behringer, but I have to admit it sounds pretty good.
  21. Alright, I have to admit I got drawn in by the name, but when the short description name-dropped Pallbearer, my interest went to "piqued".
  22. I got Whammed today. In a fucking Brooklyn Pizza, of all places. Gah!
  23. I’m not a fan of the obvious autotuned vocals, but the underlying song itself is cool and this video is amazing. I would have thought it was digitally manipulated all to kingdom come—and it is—but the underlying performance is smooth as something really smooth. Respect.
  24. As much as I loved Strong Girl Bong-soon, I am surprised it made it to the list. I can’t think of a single person I would recommend it to. I’ve heard good things about honorable mention Dark, but I’ve been waiting until I can pay attention, as I heard it requires concentration.
