What did you do today?
Loctite is where its at for me...... During my retic work, I had one set of brand new brass fittings that just wouldn't stop leaking. Not much, just a small drop every couple of minutes. Tried with 5 different thicknesses of teflon tape, finger tight, wrench tight, SUPER tight, nothing - all leaked. A dose of Loctite 577 fixed that bitch up reeeeeal quick!

Beer Reviews
Fat Yak Pale Ale, a new one from Matilda Bay brewing in Australia. It is really well balanced - light enough to be refreshing on a hot summer day, but tasty enough to be rewarding. Nice and light citrus hop aroma, medium bitterness, subtle grassy aftertaste from dry hopping. Ever-so-slightly malt sweet. Definitely give Little Creatures Pale Ale a run for its money......

Discrete op amp?
Uh, sure...... why not...... * Just to add to my reasoning above. Whenever I see talk of discrete OPAMPs I think of AMB's designs. Sure, an MMM with discrete OPAMPs might be a good upgrade over the default AD8610. But the extra cost has pushed you up into B22 territory. Buy/build something well implemented in the first place, and use the right tool for the job, then you won't have to worry about what the technology behind it is or pay for expensive (and possibly pure snake-oil) upgrades.

Discrete op amp?
Its a cop-out answer, but IMHO it all comes down to implementation. A well implemented IC OPAMP might not be 'perfect', but can be very, very good. They offer an incredible amount of functionality in a very small package - have a look at the schematic on the first page of the OPA637 data sheet as an example. Implementing something equivalent using discrete components can be difficult - but if done well can be better thanks to better part matching, tolerances and designing something EXACTLY for the specific purpose. [EDIT] cetoole just said it all a lot better and in-depth than I ever could However, I really think this trend towards using discrete OPAMPs like the Burson, Audio-gd etc. as drop in replacements for IC OPAMPs is a bit silly. They are often installed with long air-wiring, potentially use a lot more power than would normally be drawn by an equivalent IC...... I figure if you specifically want a discrete design, buy something built from the ground-up to be discrete.

What did you do today?
Best of luck cetoole * I'm re-doing all of the high pressure section of our reticulation including connections from the mains and around the solenoids. Only two zones, but what a royal pain - the PVC cement fumes are making me nauseous

Number 2 is a great shot. Looks like you caught that one second where she was being herself rather than having her photo taken. Sweet

Vintage DAC replacement...Buffalo DAC?
Buffalo is actually current out, but requires very specific loading and filtering of the analogue outputs to get the best results.

The Uber-Controller and DynaFET Build
I look forward to your progress as well While there is no way that I can purchase or be involved right now, I would be *very* keen to see options for a cut-down version of the controller. An input selector, bal/un-bal converter, relay attenuator and AC relay in one unit would be so many different kinds of awesome......

Is Building a Power Cable Similar to Building an Interconnect
I'm not a big tea drinker, but I recall hearing that the scientific approach is to stop the heat before the water boils. Getting it right up to boiling point supposedly drives off oxygen and other dissolved gases, which is apparently not optimal for the best taste. $0.02

The new Grado lineup
Apparently, they are constructed of both metal and wood. So they probably won't be as heavy as they look.
-
The new Grado lineup
I want to know why they can't try something modern with their designs like Audio Technica, AKG, Sennheiser, Beyer etc etc etc
-
The new Grado lineup
Surely having complementary phones with different sound signatures is a good thing. Use the right tool for the job.

Switchable gain for the Beta-22
I was completely confused for a while there, because the switch wasn't drawn as I expected. I should really learn to read schematics better But all clear now...... it is basically a voltage divider before the pot, and the switch just shorts it out or engages it.

What did you do today?
Could you possibly post it up here? I would really like to see how it was implemented!

Post the last thing you bought!
Son of a...... I've got to learn how to use this lens effectively first. Actually using it at f/1.8 is proving to be quite a test of my still-undeveloped-skills
