  1. Unlike most of the AT&T drones this guy actually seemed knowledgeable and actually checked out the situation as he was going about transferring my number. I was aware of the potential problem as we have a lot of students who come down from Chicago and anyone with AT&T has had to deal with that problem even though their billing address is not in Charleston. Supposedly it is actually in the contract (still may not be legal) but I never got that far. I may tie some things up regarding the cell number and then just go for it and see what happens. At least it wasn't a wasted trip as I was able to pick up my wife's new running shoes so I definitely earned some awesome-husband points (which I tend to use up pretty damn fast) .
  2. Well I guess I will not be getting an iphone anytime soon. according AT&fuckingT, Charleston, IL is in a red zone. If your ratio of in-network to out-of-network calls falls below some predetermined, but unspecified value, they can terminate your contract with 30 days notice. Not huge, but if they do, they may not let my number be transferred to another carrier. Cunts™. No T-Pain
  3. You've actually met at least one of us and most likely two of us already Well if nobody else volunteers I can drive it up as I have a pickmeuptruck as well as two fucking huge pelican cases to keep things nice and dry and secure. The only monkey in the wrench is that I will not be there exceptionally early on Saturday. I am about 3 hours south of Chicago (if I drive like a maniac) and we will be seeing Neko Case on Friday evening, so I will definitely have some parental suties Saturday morning. Just let me know.

    Misheard Lyrics

,and green alligators, and longneck geese, .... Oh wait. Nevermind
  5. Well I finished the dbel modding/damping of one cup as the "new" foam arrived but then ran out of felt . Still, it doesn't sound haf bad.
  6. Congratulations JP on a job very well done.
  7. FTFY
  8. Yep, any real idea can be taken to the extreme of ridiculousness by the lunatic fringe. Sometimes it gets tiring trying to separate the wheat from the chaff. I think I'll stop now before I use up my quota of trite phrases ...
  9. Looks like you are getting closer to using those new tubes.
  10. Totally awesome Al, that sounds like a great line-up of talent. Makes me wish I lived on the left coast.
  11. I was talking more in the general dismissal of the phenomenon not in any specific case, but point noted.
  12. Well, if nothing else, that is just fuckin' cool.
  13. I absolutely agree. However, compared to the potential variation among living organisms due to the interaction of genotypes and environment as well as the non-linearities introduced by ontogeny the variation among computers is pretty small. A lot of people dismiss individual variation as a cop out when discussing audio comparisons. I do not. OK, enough geeky science talk, back to your regularly scheduled discussion.
  14. OK, now you have to post up those mods.
  15. Isn't this just a variant of the "we all hear things different" arguement? NTTAWWT.
  16. Well I have to weigh in here as this also seems to be excessively priced for what you get. I am very happy with all of my squeezeboxes (2), transporter, boom and duet. All run just fine and there is no lag when running squeezecenter (Now Squeezebox Server 7.4 although I am still currently running 7.3.4) off of the iMac (2GB RAM all music on one NAS). I also run my home office SB3 through a Musiland SRC-10 upsampler and then into the external DAC. This to me sounds better and has the advantage of using BNC for the output to the DAC (although that is not an option right now as my Buffalo32 is still partially [mostly] in pieces). Right now the only advantage the transporter has is that it can process native 24/96 files but the SB3 cannot.
  17. FOTM! FOTM! FOTM!
  18. This sounds just like what I have been looking for. I may need to give it a listen once my main system is back to "full strength". I was not impressed with a DA-50 I had in the system for a few weeks. Was one hell of a deal but it just didn't sound good. That was a while ago and things have changed on the amplification front since then so probably time to check it out again.
  19. How does the cord on the LCD-2 compare to that on the LCD-1?
  20. You'll probably have to wait until after RMAF. I bought mine used, so likely I will not get an email, so no ban for me (at least for this).
  21. Actually I think it is your source(s). IMO esoterics sound bright and a little "brittle". It could also be the recordings. It may not just be the popular stuff either, many "audiophile" recordings sound a bit strident to me. YMMV.
  22. Yep, I thought the cable was no big deal at first, but my perceived amount of fail increases with each use.
  23. It's a pretty good movie too.
  24. The enclosures look very nice and hopefully they will sound even better than the LCD-1. The headband is definitely fugly and see some upgrade options with it. Much easier than upgrading the enclosure.
