  3. We had to wear boaters as part of the uniform at my prep school. These were known as "bashers", presumably because the first thing the seniors would do when you got there as a new boy was punch a fist through the crown. I think a pork pie would be a little less jolly-hockey-sticks.
  4. HATS would only be worthwhile if you had both the player and receiver.
  5. They'd have to be built into a Panama hat.

Are we having drinks together or running a train on you?
  7. Put my HT speakers (Aerial Model 8s) up on some Sound Anchor stands I managed to find locally. Reran Audyssey a few times while futzing with the subwoofer gain. Enjoyed the placebo effect for a while.
  8. I would buy that for a dollar!

Yowza! Can I get them shipped to you to avoid paying MA sales tax? Downside of having Outlaw based up the road from me.
  11. Sorry, I just meant the 9.8 doesn't do very well as a pure pre-amp with analog inputs and pass-through. But used as you describe it's very creditable. Particularly taking DSD straight from the OPPO.

Sweet. Please be aware I maintain a strict no spooning policy.
  14. Here hare here.
  15. It took you this long to marshall that argument, counselor?
  16. Sorry, I'm not from around here.
  17. I never intended to use it with analog inputs, so it doesn't bother me. And the compensation is that the digital side is excellent. About 12 feet. It's an LCOS projector so you'd have to pretty much have to have your nose up against the screen to see pixel structure.
  18. Exactly what I said! That's not just a chick flick, it's the chick flick.
  19. Many years ago, I managed a liquor store in an undistinguished part of a run-down town in a benighted corner of the Third World. The owner employed private security guards who, as a matter of informal policy, dealt with shoplifting by taking offenders around the back of the premises and beating them unconscious. I thought this was a bit uncivilized and -- the next time someone was collared at the till with a bottle of brandy shoved down his trousers -- asked that the police be called instead. They responded commendably quickly, thanked us for our public-spiritedness and promptly resolved the complaint by taking the poor bastard around the back and beating him unconscious.
  20. School's out and it was raining again today, so I enlisted the invaluable child-minding assistance of Buzz and Woody and spent the down time trying out a few SACDs on the BDP-83 in my HT system. HDMI only as the analog section in the 9.8 is notably crappy. They sounded damn good! No operational hitches at all after installing the latest firmware. Looks like this cake is mostly baked. And boy is it a superb video player! "The Return Of The King" on DVD looks so good -- even at 110" -- that I'll probably hestitate (for about three seconds) before springing for the Blu-ray LOTR transfers.
  21. Is that a Rockhopper M3? Those things are wicked flammable.
  22. Does the job.
  23. A-fucking-men. Justin's one sounded killer at the NJ meet.

Crap. I nearly booked that one but was too lazy to head in to the airport that early. I'm on the 11:10AM. Perhaps it's a good thing that we don't get a chance to start ... pursuing our interests until a bit later anyway.
