It may depend on the Melos but I was looking at buying one and got a chance to audition it at a meet before purchase. Needless to say I did not end up buying it. It had no of the famed synergy with Grados that I hear preached about incessantly on HF and seemed like a bad deal even for $300.

Just taking time off from work, but doing some fun stuff too. Hopefully there will be a trip to the beach in the next couple of days. Today I started off with a short trip on the m'cycle to meet an old college buddy for breakfast on campus (he still works there). I also took a quick detour on the way home to stop by one of my favorite places to go while I was at UNH. There is a Marine Lab located on Great Bay that is open to the public. I swung by for a quick photo, I'll upload it later and post it somewhere.

I missed a very good example of what I'm looking for 2 days ago due to what I like to call Lilyitis, basically I got busy with the little one and completely forgot. :| She's asleep right now so there's hope I'll be able to stay on top of this one but it already looks like I'll be paying more for less. It's not pathetic unless you aren't willing to pay a price (monetary or size-wise) for it. So you can get what you want, you just need to buy the Balanced Home instead of the Desktop amp.

Wait, so on the Audioengine speakers the amp is only in one of the speakers? That would seem to imply that the enclosures are substantially different...

If you don't mind cables coming out the front (not a big deal in my book) it has a variable line out.

All power conditioners that I've seen incorporate a surge protector and filter as well so you wouldn't need both. No experience with the Duet, sorry.

At a minimum buy one of these: Item # PW8R15AUD, 15 Amp, 8 Isolated Receptacle Point of Use Unit for Audio Use on Brick Wall That'll help with the surge portion of the equation. If you want to deal with the dips and surges you'll need something a bit more than just a surge/filter product. For that you'll want something more like a power conditioner. There is a fair amount of debate about what the various options do and don't do and while I hesitate to do anything other than give a direct recommendation in this case I can't. I use a MonsterPower product, which probably isn't the best but was reasonably priced and I've never felt like it was doing anything bad.

I think that it was just that the second stepper wasn't indexed to match the first. I agree that it's pretty weak to not have it done, but I'm sure it took all of 5 minutes to correct.

I wonder if it just reset some stuff and the weeklies will take a bit to catch back up since the monthly stuff still works.

So evidently Elephas's ES-1 was at the meet this weekend and Mikhail stated that he was going to ship the amp Monday (today). I guess we'll see how that goes. Also, attendees said that Mikhail claimed that the SDS-XLR was "in his wife's car" but no one saw it. Regardless it sounds like there all that is left is an unresolved aesthetic issue with the front panel of that amp, which I can understand needing to be resolved before shipping.

Does it really need to be planned when one's intention is just to go out, have a good time, have a few drinks and end up somewhere?
