  1. Happy birthday, fellow graduate!
  2. Ouch Doug, really sorry to hear about your grandfather. Must be very rough, seeing him go like that. I have been quite fortunate that I have three healthy grandparents still (grandmother died of cancer nearly 15 years ago), and one of them is visiting right now for my graduation, which was earlier today. Thanks for the congrats guys.
  3. Finished school. yay.

    SHM-CD

Sounds like something I dont care about then, so better to save my money. Thanks Fitz.

    SHM-CD

Thinking about buying a copy of Metallica's S&M CD, noticed there is both a normal US release and a Japanese SHM-CD release. Never seen SHM-CD before, so no idea if it is worth the extra money. Is it different mastering, or just some sham to get more money out of folks? The actual encoding cant be all that different, unless they dont care about backwards compatibility.
  6. Yamaha YH-100 Also two pairs of high end RCA cables. I feel like such a cable whore now, but I really needed to do something better than the ones which came with an old VCR.
  7. Happy birthday Chris!
  8. Xpal portable battery pack for the flight to Cali.
  9. At least it isnt a HC special edition SR-007. I would truly be fucked if that were the case.
  10. Arriving with the van, definitely in for the party, and volunteer to help with drinking booze. I can probably be talked into doing other help too.
  11. IIRC, many of these digital attenuator ICs do two things for volume control, a voltage divider on the input and switched gain resistors for the following opamp. You want an output voltage below that of the input, the opamp runs at unity gain and the voltage on the input is divided down. You want greater than the input voltage, it starts to increase the gain of the opamp. Now, I have absolutely no idea what IC Justin is using here, so it is definitely possible it could be working different, but this seems a likely configuration.
  12. Worked, finished a paper, heading home now. Only two more papers to go, a take home exam, and one final exam to go.
  13. Wow, its like you are channeling my boss.
  14. Set of Monsoon MM-2000 speakers.
  15. Happy birthday Justin!
  16. Just got out of group planning meeting for philosophy of science debate tomorrow, now working on Ruth Bader Ginsburg paper as the last requirement for my Poli338 course. Gonna be here a while.

    CanJam 2009

I have probably about the same chance of pulling this off successfully as Vicki. Would one of those nifty glasses/nose/mustache disguises be sufficient?
  18. Are you thinking of the MB Quart QP805? I have one on the way, but it was a blind purchase so I cant speak to the sound yet. T40v1 is the way I would go right now if I needed closed and circumaural, unless I could afford something like a SR-4070.
  19. Happy Birthday Ari!
  20. Got a call from a Detective Holt, MoCo background investigation starts now. Installed a scanner, did some research about museum style directional speakers for possible installation in the library gallery. Found that said speakers seem to start in the $1k range, each.
  21. Friends of your friends, I think. Probability goes up with increased number of your friends who "know" that person.
  22. Have a great one Matt!
  23. Not strictly today, but eh, close enough. Normal day at work yesterday, got in at 10, scheduled to be on to 6, but had to leave early for a group meeting for the final philosophy debate at 5. Well, only 3 of the 5 of us were planning on making it, and one of those no showed. Neither myself or the other guy had anything at the moment, so we decided to call it until Monday. At that time, I got a call from a friend asking if I wanted to go to the O's game. Went, and watched the O's suck. Don't think they ever got past 2nd base. After that, we went to a club, had a bit too much to drink, and I ended up in some strange German woman's house for a few hours. Got a ride back to campus at about 4:30 (where I left my car), decided it would be a good idea to go for a couple mile run, then went back to my car and slept for a few hours, before finally heading home.
  24. Did a couple today myself. Good bit more coming up over the summer, as we are phasing out all of the Optiplex 620s and replacing with 760s. Also had classes.
