Al & Al's Random Cars & Coffee in Leland Michigan yesterday: There was an angry mob coming from Flint and spurred on by the petroleum lobby to burn this interloper down to its electrical sockets. And this is the one that started it all: a 1964 Amphicar fresh out of Lake Michigan. Very fun to see this up close And beyond the water dripping off the back, there is some lake algae on the bumper to prove its recent swim

My day was fantastic until Al and Karyl and Nitro the wonder dog left for home. I went down the hill to watch the last critical stage of the Tour de France and my absent-minded MIL had unplugged the TV/cable box and the cable itself during the "storm" (aka light rain) this morning and forgot all about it. Stage 20 was unrecorded and it took 30+ minutes on the phone with Charter Cable to get the box back online and up to date. Currently deciding between watching today's stage from midnight until 3am and waking up later this morning to watch today and tomorrow in a row. Can't wait to get together with you guys again but hope that Kathy doesn't bonk my world the next time.

Spoiler alert if you're following the race. This thread doesn't get a lot of love, but goddam if today wasn't awesome. Mandela Day was being celebrated by MTN Quebeka which is the very first African team in the Tour -- a wild card team at that. The coverage focused on their orange helmets with #mandeladay on them and also the Mandela quote Tweeted by race leader from team Sky, Chris Froome, who was born in Kenya. There was a 20-man breakaway and the first mention of Stephen Cummings from MTN Quebeka was in the last 2-3k when he pulled into third place on the road. At about 1k Cummings shot past Romaine Bardet and Thibeau Pinaux (who teammates buried themselves to put him in position to win) and won the stage. It was incredible! The team's first stage win in the TDF happened on Mandela Day with a come from nowhere finish. Amazing. Nelson was smiling down on them today.
