  1. Good luck Bryan! Good to hear you are hanging with Andrew, Nate. Such a great time having a youngster and a newbie. I really loved that time with my kids. Much belated happy first birthday wishes to Libby, Haj. Sounds like you had a fun party for her. We have a great first birthday pic of our son in a sailor suit with chocolate cake and ice cream smeared on his face and down his shirt. Seems like yesterday and a million years ago at the same time. Me, I'm waiting for the judge to come out for the third to last day of this marathon trial....
  2. That's just wrong! Pete doesn't deserve to be maligned like that!
  3. Finally got home at 11 to have that drink and say Fuck work! Trying to be like Mikey, I am having the last few ounces in my bottle of this:
  4. DannyB 300B? Neither of my 300B amps is going anywhere, but you're always welcome to visit the black hole.
  5. Good times indeed.
  6. I don't think even a loose definition of a "couple" stretches to five.
  7. Not fair! I want to have a drink and say fuck work too, but I am in court right now! Although our current witness is a gin drinker, the judge is a whiskey drinker and probably wouldn't appreciate a nice stirred martini. :/
  8. I liked the FBI Fizz and the Romance was really tasty. Nice and complex but not high alcohol for those few times that you might not want a big buzz.
  9. Romance Cocktail from the Stork Club book 1oz brandy and curaƧao mixed in equal parts 1oz Amer Picon (Torani Amer) 1oz French vermouth 1oz Italian vermouth Stir with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. (All amounts doubled)
  10. It's funny, Dusty, but I have been meaning to post something similar about how fun that evening was and even thought it this morning when I was glancing at the forums before the daily witness prep meetings began. Anyway, Dusty and I met up near the Haight where he was standing on a corner while I drove over from my office with a buddy of mine who had just "run" the Bay to Breakers and who was hurting and grumpy at times. We proceeded to Alembic for drinks and dinner, serenaded by some Sabbath-esque CD by some friends of the wait staff. We had some nice cocktails and good eats. The head bartender was profiled in Underhill-Lounge.com, not a cocktail book. Here is the link. We made our way down to the other end of Haight Street for a brew or two at Toronado. It was not the same without the usual surly but knowledgeable bartenders there, as the woman behind the bar was unknown to me and altogether too friendly and clueless about the Belgians they were featuring for Belgian month. While there, I learned that there had been a major fatality crash on the Golden Gate Bridge, so I gave Dusty a ride to his sister's house in Berkeley/Oakland and then carried on over the Richmond Bridge to get home. The only problem being that Dusty was too scary looking for the gas station mini mart guy to let him in to buy milk for his sister, and the "Texas" down the street came up dry for moo juice. We had a fine time start to finish, and I learned that vacation Dusty is way more pleasant and happy and entertaining than sick, overcrowded Dusty.
  11. Four tickets for our trip to Germany and Prague in June. Air France had a promotion where the business class round trip was only a few bucks more than coach (and less than "premium coach" go figure) so we are flying in style. Plus, the flight from SF to Paris (on the way to Berlin) is on the new two-decker Airbus A380, which should be very cool. The itinerary is Berlin, Dresden, Prague, and then Munich and environs (such as Mad Ludwig's castles) in 17 days. Looking forward to it, and I'm open to any suggestions or meet-ups if Colin or anyone else might cross our path.
  12. Yay, Stork Club! Wish I had seen these in time to make one myself, but I am enjoying some Hanky Panky from the Savoy: Hanky Panky Cocktail 1/2 dry gin 1/2 Italian vermouth 2 dashes (healthy bar spoon) Fernet Branca Stir and strain and orange peel twist
  13. Definitely one of my favorite CCB brews, if not my favorite.
  14. Hey amphead, welcome to Head-Case! I hope you're keeping your lasers in check these days. You only get two eyes, you know.
  15. I guess you figured out how you felt about the Blackthorn after all. I made a Final Word with 1.5oz each of Rendezvous Rye, Yellow Chartreuse and lemon juice, and 1oz of Maraschino.
  16. Listening to my K1Ks from my Balancing Act with AD1 tubes, and there is nothing harsh or hard in the mid-range and the high end is well-rendered in its own space. This isn't the greatest K1K amp around, but it does a very nice job. I still prefer it from my 300B speaker amps, but that is partly a matter of taste and partly a matter of more balls to the 10 watts they are putting out. Can't you find a decent speaker amp to try out with your pair? Even taking it to an audio shop and convincing them to allow you to connect them would give you some sense of whether there is really something wrong or lacking with your particular pair.
  17. Now I'm just mad. That looks very nice, Mike.
  18. Nice butt! Nice ribs! Getting hungry looking at these grill shots and have no plan for dinner yet...
  19. Eclipse Imperial Stout, Four Roses Cask
  20. Good news Nate!
  21. Grilled veg & figs with chorizo and chicken apple sausage.
  22. Corpse Reviver #2 x2
  23. Is the last one -=her=- ?
  24. Oooh, jealous of the Dreadnaught! Nice Raffy.
  25. Now the bass player's husband has joined in. That's Dave Grisman on mandolin.
