  1. That is another good suggestion. I will think of more.
  2. I think the Meridians sound good (not good price to performance ratio, tho), but I thought you had a balanced dac with a transport already. Why not try it out? On the other side of the ledger, I really do believe that the 307A is VERY revealing of your source so if you are going to spend that much for an amp and your current source is lacking, then you had better get a better source. The various modded Denon 2910/3910 etc are a really good value and the ones with a tube output stage would mate nicely with the TTVJ. I would err on the warmer side -- which is one reason I think Todd likes the G08 for it. Something too cold and sterile is not going to complement the 307A because the amp will not warm it up. The APL 3910 mod that tkam and spritzer have, or one of the others like guzziguy has, are some good options to consider. They are on audiogon most times and APL will mod one if you have patience...
  3. Nope, but that does make the cake funnier to me
  4. Nice work Terry! I forgot about you promising those pics. My favorite is bigguy in the background lit by the glow of his lappy. Cool stuff, that film.
  5. Welcome to HeadCase barmar, and feel free to hang around. Well, did you order the 307A yet? I have one in my main rig right now but I don't own it at the moment. You will love it and working with Todd is great as well. I have balanced K701s also, and I am guessing you will love them on the the TTVJ/Millett Monster. I will add my 2 cents that you should listen to the Equinox 650s with fresh ears and an open mind because they sound clear and amazing on the 307A. One more tip, take off the earpads, remove the foam disc sitting between you and the drivers and put the pads back on for another listen. If you like the improvement, then take off the pads again, put in a piece of nylon (cut up stockings is what I used) or speaker cloth if you have it and put the pads back on. Simple, cheap and effective tweak, imho. Tell us when you order the Monster and don't be shy with the pics when it arrives!
  6. I remember you posted that one pic of your b-day cake:
  7. I'm so jealous Vincent! My wife pointed out the article in the NYTimes about the reunion show. She asked if it brought back good memories because we saw them a couple times in the 80s, and I told her you were going to be there. We both hope they will play some more shows and get out this way. There is some rumor of recording new songs also, which would be cool. For my part, on the 5th of July I was in Santa Barbara for a wedding while my wife's cousin watched our kids. When we went to pick them up, they were all at a neighbor's house for a little backyard party. We went in and had a beer while a collection of party-goers sat around playing guitars, hand drums, and singing. The cousin, who is younger than we are, said a couple of the people playing, including the home owner, were professional musicians. She said "have you ever heard of Toad the Wet Sprocket?" Turns out we were at Glen Phillips' house and he was the one playing guitar with his back facing us at that moment. My wife and I were big fans of Toad, have all their records, saw them live years ago, and have several of Glen's solo records. It was cool hanging out while they played Gram Parsons, Beatles, and other tunes. Didn't manage to meet him because they never stopped playing but had a good time and probably avoided that awkward "I'm a big fan dufus" conversation anyway.

  9. I cannot wait to know what markl will do to improve them! If his D5000 is the R10 equivalent, then he should be able to make this one induce orgasms while listening.

    Strangely disturbing photo.
  11. I'm not a huge fan of Cary gear, but that sounds like a fantastic pre and headamp. The Manley 300B Preamp that Todd had at CanJam also has a fine headamp built in with 300B goodness to boot. The Manley is not balanced. I would like to hear these side-by-side. Enjoy it now that you can fit your cans into it!
  12. Sweet setup PJ! I hope you enjoy the Week of Tweak, hereinafter, WoT. Someday I will claim a listening room but it will be interesting to hear how yours pans out. Enjoy!
  13. That could be good. Funny collection of initial guests.
  14. Happy birthday Mike and Birgir! I have to send Mike his Black Maple Hill 23yo and take pics of the inside of the ED-1 for Birgir. Sorry for being a slacker, and hope you guys had great birthdays!
  15. Congrats! Looks great and I am dying to hear some impressions. Enjoy!
  16. From Stereophile CES Report: We ran into SinglePower Inc.'s Mikhail Rotenberg as he was sprinting down the hall to the Synergistic Research room. "Check these out," he said. "These are a 1932 Tung Argon 4327 and a 1943 722A (323), labeled Centennial, but manufactured by Western Electric." Rotenberg has a warehouse full of NOS treasures like this he bought from a MilSpec supplier near West Point. A few minutes later, we saw them in action, but we could have never guessed what they were being used in. This is the Synergistic Research/SinglePower Enigma power supply ($6000) for Synergistic's active shielded Tesla cables (interconnect $1200
  17. Congrats 4N6! Have a fantastic time with the amp, and let's hear some real comparisons to the B52 when you have some time. Assuming you don't get banned for holding out on pics! I have had some more time with the 307A but not enough. Todd has allowed me to hold onto it for the next week and with my wife and kids traveling for most of the week, I predict some serious 307A time!

    DCD on DSD

How is that possible? Did they really ever go on sale? I signed up for the set from Acoustic Sounds but they aren't even out yet.
  19. I was trolling you, but only in the nicest possible way.
  20. I assume I know his source, and wonder why he hasn't said anything publicly.
  21. I would believe that. It didn't sound like what I am used to, and the competing DACs were competing too well.
  22. What is the grounding issue?
  23. I was guessing $750.
  24. Although I am not sure I will send him my cans, I agree that Justin needs more of them to test out his amps. Also agree that he needs some good old NOS tubes. The new stock Mullards he had in Florida were better than the ones he had this last weekend and may account for some of the differences I was hearing. He should have some NOS options for review and then for purchase when he starts shipping.
