I did notice that the newer senns have no more clips inside. I wonder why they changed that. My old hd580s from the early 90s had clips that made the drivers stick in there pretty good.

NwAvGuy, To add to the post above, I don't even know these other guys here personally except for maybe buying and selling stuff to some of them before or chatting with some of them through PM, and I did have some respect for what you were trying to do in spreading your truth about these dacs, but to spit at me with some sarcasm when i was just replying to you seriously about your topic is like saying that you are only here to piss people off anyways. In this case, just solely as an amp, I agree that the e7 is a great value product but when used as a DAC, we can't carry it around when used that way anyway since it only takes a USB input. Whats the point of all your talk saying its better than this dac and that dac when we can't really even use it as a frickin DAC! In order for comparisons to be fair, we need to connect all the dacs to as high end an amp we have as possible to see the shyte these things can spit out right? All those measurements of the dac section won't that much matter after all if only listened to through its puny amp section.

NwAvGuy, I have the FiiO e7 myself. It is decent but it is hard to really compare it with high end stuff as a DAC just because it has the limitation of not having a line out.

It sort of has that k701-ish coloration in the upper mids. That was one of the reasons I sold mine. It didn't go away after 150 hours of burn in either.

My source for the glite was the mhdt havana dac coming from files on my pc. The little dot also used the havana for a while but I downgraded to an emu0404 since I feel it has a better value and is good enough for me at the moment. Dare I say that the 0404 usb sounds even better to me than the havana using the stock Jan 5670 tube. Since my last post on this thread, I changed my tubes on the ld mk2 to 6n6p power tubes and Mullard ef92 driver tubes. Now were cookin! My hd580s are rockin on this rig and for the price its pretty much unbeatable! It makes the little dot smoother/less grainy while faster and more dynamic sounding plus warmer and richer all at the same time. It rawks I tell yah It is definitely a more enjoyable rig to me than my old glite/hd600 with equinox combo. The hd580/ld mk2 rig is more powerful and punchy sounding compared to my memory of the glite/hd600 which always kept me wanting to try other amps because I thought they sound a little soft and veiled together while lacking balls. The way I can double check my memory of the glite is that I always compared it with the hp jack of my audiolab integrated amp with the hd600s which was more ballsy, but had a harder and more etched sound when directly compared to the gilmore. Now with my hd580s, the Audiolab is outclassed by the LD mk2 using ef92/6n6p in every way. I sound like a shill with the LD mk2 comments hehehe but seriously give them a try with senns. These might very well be the cheapest amp out there that brings the senns to life.

personal taste also plays a big part in choosing an amp because I think the Little Dot Mk2 using the Voshod 6zh1p-ev driver tubes sound better to me than the Gilmore Lite at a fraction of the cost. I am using the hd580s now and it is a great match for the ld mk2. My hd600 felt lacking to me with my Glite with dps.
