what is the accepted standard on balanced terminations from source to amp?

Featured Replies

I would like to build my new balanced rig properly. Should a source have male or female XLR terminals, and again what should the amp have?

Outputs are male, inputs are female.

Generally, people use male on the source, and female on the amp.

Outputs are male, inputs are female.

Just to piggyback onto this thread (instead of making a "Stoopid Questions" thread, which should probably be a sticky for me anyway).

For balanced cabling (say for a headphone), I assume the normal is for standard size XLRs, and not minis?

For a 4 pin XLR, is standard pinout:

1  L+

2  L-

3  R+

4  R-

Since I haven't really used balanced much, I'm sure I'll have more questions... :palm:

Thanks Nate.

Some questionable "marketing spin" in the above

You buy the cable, you get the oxygen for free......
